    • A hub cap for a vehicular wheel. The hub cap includes a body portion and a wheel coupling portion, both made from a non-metallic material. The wheel coupling portion has circumferentially-spaced lug nut engaging members that are axially alignable with lug nuts extending from the wheel. The lug nut engaging members form a substantially arcuate shape, and are resiliently biased so that upon placement of the hub cap onto a wheel, the lug nuts push the lug nut engaging members in a radial direction. Continued contact between the lug nuts and their corresponding engaging members promotes secure connection between the hub cap and wheel. In one embodiment, the body portion and wheel engaging portion is formed from two separate pieces that are subsequently joined, while in another, they are formed from a single unitary structure to define a one-piece construction.

    • A bicycle wheel assembly is disclosed that includes a wheel and a pair of decorative wheel mounts. The wheel includes a hub for mounting to the frame of a bicycle, a rim disposed radially outward from the hub and which is configured for receiving a tire, and a support structure extending radially between the hub and the rim. The wheel mounts are mounted axially outward from either side of the radial support structure of the wheel. Each wheel mount overlays the radial support structure of one side of the wheel to provide a decorative appearance on each side. The wheel mounts may be rotatably or non-rotatably mounted to the wheel to allow rotation or non-rotation of the wheel mount relative to the wheel.

    • A method and apparatus for attaching an ornamental overlay to a vehicle wheel by injecting adhesive foam through an aperture of the wheel and into a cavity formed between the wheel and the overlay. A first nest engages the outboard side of the wheel/overlay assembly to seal the inner periphery of the overlay, the valve stem opening of the overlay, the lug bolt receiving holes of the wheel, the pilot aperture of the wheel, and/or the valve stem opening of the wheel. A secondary nest engages the inboard side of the wheel/overlay assembly to seal the wheel apertures and a plurality of turbine openings in the overlay. A nozzle disposed within the secondary nest is adapted to inject the adhesive foam into the cavity through either a gap between the periphery of a wheel aperture and the periphery of a corresponding turbine opening in the overlay, through a straight or angled hole within a spoke, or through a groove within a spoke.

    • A wheel and cladding includes a cladding having an outer decorative surface and an inner surface which faces a wheel to be covered. The cladding includes a plurality of openings for receiving wheel mounting lugs. Spaced from the openings are a plurality of spaced snap-locking tabs extending from the inner facing surface of the cladding toward the wheel to which the cladding is to be mounted. The wheel includes a generally circular relief cut or other recess extending around the central hub or in spaced relationship thereto and aligned with the spaced tabs of the cladding to snap-receive the cladding for holding it in place while adhesive applied to the wheel and/or cladding is cured to permanently bond the decorative cladding to the wheel.

    • An improved vehicle wheel cover retention system and method for producing the same wherein the wheel includes a disc defining an outboard facing wheel surface and including an outboard tire bead seat retaining flange. The flange includes an outer surface having a circumferential, radially inwardly facing groove formed therein. The groove is defined by a generally axially extending first surface and a second surface angled relative to the first surface. The wheel further includes a wheel cover covering at least a portion of the outboard facing wheel surface. The cover includes an outer annular lip which extends into the groove and is positioned adjacent the first surface. The groove and the lip have a configuration which enables the lip to spring outwardly into the groove when the cover is pressed on the disc. The method for producing the vehicle wheel includes the the steps of: (a) providing a disc defining an outboard facing wheel surface and including an outboard tire bead seat retaining flange, the outboard bead seat retaining flange including an outer surface having a circumferential, radially inwardly facing groove formed therein, the groove defining an inner diameter; (b) providing a wheel cover including an outer annular lip which defines an outer diameter which generally corresponds to the inner diameter of the groove; and (c) moving the disc and the cover toward one another whereby the wheel cover initials deflects inwardly and then expands outwardly into the groove to secure the wheel cover to the disc.

    • A wheel cover snap fastens to stylized lug nuts of a wheel using resilient retainers that are integrally fastened to the wheel cover. The stylized lug nuts correspond and axially extend through apertures in the wheel cover when the wheel cover is assembled to the wheel. The retainers are secured to an inboard face of the wheel cover and correspondingly engage the stylized lug nuts to retain the wheel trim assembly to the wheel such that retainers are not visible when the wheel trim assembly is viewed from a direction normal to the outboard face of the wheel cover. The apertures are sized in relation to annular flanges on the lug nuts and to the resilient tabs of the retainers such that the wheel cover and/or annular flanges of the lug nuts conceal the retainers from view, and thereby provide an uninterrupted chrome appearance.

    • An improved vehicle wheel cover retention system and method for producing the same includes a wheel disc and a wheel cover secured thereto. The wheel disc defines an outboard facing wheel surface and includes an outboard tire bead seat retaining flange. The outboard bead seat retaining flange includes an outer peripheral end and an inner surface having at least one annular groove formed therein. The wheel cover is secured to the wheel disc by an adhesive/sealant. In particular, the adhesive/sealant is disposed in the annular groove to secure the outer end of the wheel cover to the outer peripheral end of the wheel disc and to provide a seal to prevent water, mud, salt and other debris from entering between the outer end of the wheel cover and the outer peripheral end of the wheel disc.
