摘要： A passive tensioning system is disclosed for composite material that is dispensed by a composite placement machine. A spool is mounted on a spool shaft and material on the spool is pulled from the spool and applied to a surface. The tensioning system has a drag brake on the spool shaft and a drag brake control for the drag brake. A dancer roll is mounted on a linear slide having a spring force and a slide control is provided for the linear slide. A control system continually varies the drag brake control and the slide control to control the tension of the composite material based on the instantaneous operating characteristics of the composite placement machine.

The strand material within the composite contains specific chemical, mechanical, or electrical characteristics that instill the object with enhanced capabilities not possible with only one material.

摘要： A device for fabricating a composite structure comprises a multi-axis positioner and an attached end effector comprising an integrated head and creel. The head has a clamp, cut and restart mechanism and a compaction roller with a rotary axis. The creel has a prismatic shape with a coupling device on the top of the creel for attachment to the multi axis positioner and a centerline which passes through the center of the creel and intersects the axis of rotation of the compaction roller. A composite placement head is attached to the bottom of the creel. A plurality of composite material supply spools are mounted on the sides of the creel and face outward from the creel. A plurality of rollers are mounted on the outside surface of the creel for directing the composite material from the supply spools to the fiber placement head.

摘要： A composite automation method and apparatus for the generation of short path course application of a composite lamina is realized by reconfiguring the functional mechanisms of the fiber placement head. Separating the fiber advance and retract functions, nesting the activation cylinders, and making use of push only activation results in a simplified, compact AFP delivery head. Uniform cutting is provided by a circular configuration fiber cutting blade, were at activation the blade both provides a progressive cutting force and rotates to providing a new cutting edge, and requires limited cutting edge guidance as all orientations cut equally well. The mechanism nested in functions and placed in close proximity to the compaction roller reduces the overall fiber course to the application point.
