    • The invention relates to a device for clamping a workpiece holder (3) on a collect chuck (2) that can be fixed to a machine tool, having a plurality of clamping elements distributed around the circumference of the collet chuck (2; 42). Said clamping elements that can be adjusted radially to the axis (4) of the collect chuck from a release to a clamping position can be pressed against a circumferential surface (25) of the workpiece holder (3) positioned relative to the collet chuck (2) in the clamping position. The clamping element are designed as rollers (20) having axes (30) aligned nearly tangentially to the collet chuck circumference. A determinable surface pressure thus results in the clamping position as said rollers (20) mutually contact the workpiece holder (3), a clamping mandrel (10) of the collet chuck (2), and the collect chuck part (11). Said surface pressure is thereby reduced and the collet chuck can also be used in the range of greater tensile forces.

    • An expandable mandrel for holding a part has a shank with inclined radial slots slidably engaged by keys. The keys are coordinated by a collar which engages an extension on each key. A platen affixes to the shank of the mandrel to provide a stop that will index the position of a part mounted onto the mandrel. The platen has radial key passages to allow longitudinal movement of the keys in the slots. The platen preferably has resilient indexing nubs to engage the part. Preferably, the position of the platen on the mandrel can be adjusted by a set screw engaging one of several indexing holes or engaging a longitudinal guide track. For machining in a wet environment, the slots can be provided with longitudinal rails and the keys provided with transverse channels to remove liquid from between the keys and the slots.

    • This disclosure is directed to a chuck system for a machine tool such as a lathe. It incorporates an elongate cylindrical body which terminates in a set of collet fingers having enlargements at the detail end whereby the enlargements define a circular body. The circular body is divided by slots to form collet fingers with enlargements at the ends of the collet fingers. A circumferential groove is formed having a registration shoulder for all of the lock jaw segments. Each lock jaw segment has a protruding tab. The tab is locked by positioning against the face of the groove and is registered against movement by jamming against a transverse post in the groove which shoulders against a conforming notch on the locking tab. A set screw holds the components in fixed location, and release is accomplished by unthreading the set screw.
