摘要： A painting system includes a paint spray booth ventilated by process air including a combination of outside make-up air and a portion of the exiting process air which is returned to the booth, the returned air being the main component of the combination. The humidity of the air in the paint spray booth is controlled by routing a first minor portion of the process air, exiting the booth, through a desiccant dehumidifier, which removes moisture and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from this process air portion before it is sent back to the paint spray booth. The dehumidifier is designed so that at any given time the process air portion contacts only part of the desiccant bed while air heated to approximately 250.degree. F. in a paint cure oven is exhausted from the oven and directed through the remaining part of the desiccant bed in order to dry, and thus regenerate, the desiccant for continued use. The dehumidifier is designed so that a continual exchange of dried desiccant for moisture laden desiccant respectively takes place relative to the process and heated air streams. The heated air also removes a large portion of the volatile organic compounds removed from the first minor portion of the process air. A second minor portion of the process air exiting from the paint spray booth, equal to the volume of make-up air, and the heated regenerative air exiting the dehumidifier are routed through a control device, such as a thermal oxidizer, which destroys the volatile organic compounds contained in this air before exhausting it to the atmosphere.

摘要： A VOC (volatile organic compounds) adsorbent material such as an alumino-silicate gel desiccant is treated with a masking agent to reduce its affinity for VOC's to a level that the material can be regenerated at a predetermined low temperature which will not desorb the masking agent. The treated adsorbent material is used to adsorb VOC's and is periodically regenerated with heated air. The treated adsorbent material may be used to adsorb VOC's from recirculated spray booth air while spraying a coating on a workpiece. Subsequent to spraying, the spray booth air is heated to above the VOC regeneration temperature to regenerate the adsorbent material and optionally to cure the applied coating. As the heated spray booth air is circulated through the adsorbent material, the previously adsorbed VOC's are desorbed. The desorbed VOC's may be destroyed by oxidizing, for example, with a catalyst.

摘要： Apparatus and methods for coating an article on a flat line, powder coating system comprises a powder coating booth with a reduced inlet opening for articles to be coated and an enlarged outlet opening for coated articles. Powder spray guns of the tribo-electric type, or having internal charging electrodes, are arranged in rows with parallel tube spray heads and are disposed at a shallow angle with respect to the conveyor to spray powder onto the articles generally in the direction of conveyor movement. Baffle plates are installed under the spray guns so that any powder which collects on the spray guns does not fall on the articles being coated. Oversprayed powder is collected from a part of the booth intermediate the spray guns and the enlarged outlet opening. Preferably, the thickness of powder coating on the articles in the precured condition is measured and the system is controlled so that the coating thickness is uniform and of the desired thickness.

摘要： A system for applying a coating to an article of manufacture comprises a first conveyor assembly which conveys articles through a coating booth for application of a coating. The first conveyor assembly has a section aligned with and in close proximity to a section of a second conveyor assembly at which the articles are transferred to the second conveyor assembly. The second conveyor assembly transports the articles to a bake oven wherein the coating is baked on the articles. By this arrangement, residual coating material is not baked on the carriers of the first conveyor assembly and hence coating removal processes to clean the carriers are avoided.

摘要： In the coating method containing a coating step for coating a substrate with a paint and a drying step for drying the paint coated thereon, the paint is sprayed on a side extending in an up-and-downward direction and a side extending a horizontal direction in the coating step in such a manner that it is coated in a given film thickness on the horizontally extending side and in a film thickness on the up-and-downwardly extending side, which is thicker than its sagging limit thickness in which it sags. The coating is effected such that the coating on the up-and-downwardly extending side is finished at the same time as or subsequent to the coating on the horizontally extending side.In the drying step, the substrate is rotation about its horizontal axis extending in a horizontal and longitudinal direction of the substrate during a period of time from before the paint sags to until it is cured to a sagless state. The rotation of the substrate is carried out at a speed which is high enough to reverse its vertical position to its horizontal position before the paint sags due to gravity yet which is low enough to cause no sagging as a result of centrifugal force.
