    • The shredder apparatus has all high wear regions of the stationary parts protected by readily replaceable liners. A funnel fed arrangement into the shredder chamber prevents jams of material being fed to machine and build up of foil and dirt, etc., which can also cause jams. Wind vane bolts are recessed into the rotor and wind vanes are located on the lower wear side thereof and cooperating bolts are located on the low wear or protected side of the vane. A replaceable dummy wear liner is provided under the shredder screen to protect the frame and is readily replaceable and removable by lifting from its craddle. The shred heads are comprised of two parts, a yoke and a replaceable head portion to extend life of each head and provide ease of replacement.

    • Ore, rock or other solids are reduced to a predetermined aggregate size with minimum energy consumption and maximum efficiency and with a dramatically reduced wear factor on machinery compared to traditional ball mills and hammer mills. A relatively low speed impact rotor propells gravitating solids continuously on a zigzag path between moving rotor bars and opposing stationary impact plates in an array surrounding the impact rotor. Easily replaceable low carbon steel impact parts may be employed. The avoidance of sliding contact between solids and metal machinery parts minimizes wear. An optional positive air draft arrangement allows the collection of fines and dust outside of the impact chamber.

    • A trap for foreign objects, such as tramp metal, introduced into a hammer mill or the like having impact hammers supported within a mill cavity for rotational movement about a generally horizontal axis. The trap is characterized as being supported exteriorally of the mill cavity on a mill cavity access door and as being arranged in communication with the mill cavity through an access door defined opening disposed adjacent an inlet opening of the cavity. The trap is formed with a receiving chamber, a smoothly curved top wall plate extending from an upper edge of the trap opening for directing objects propelled therethrough by the impact hammers downwardly into the receiving chamber, a retaining plate extending from a lower edge of the trap opening in overlying relation to the receiving chamber for retaining objects collected therein, and a door bounding the receiving chamber for affording access to the collected objects.
