The device includes a pair of upper flexible straps, each terminating at a proximal end at the opposing sides of the chin portion, and each terminating at a distal end at an upper strap attachment means, such as a hook-and-loop type fastener. Similarly, a pair of lower flexible straps is included, each terminating at a proximal end at the opposing sides of the chin portion, and each terminating at a distal end at a lower strap attachment means. A plurality of pockets are included, each pocket comprising a front portion and a rear portion. The upper and lower straps each terminate at one of the pockets, the pocket connecting the straps to the chin portion. Each pocket includes both a closed end positioned proximate the chin portion, and an open side positioned proximate the patient's ears when the device is worn. A thermal pack is inserted into each of the pockets to deliver thermal therapy to the patient's jaws and surrounding areas.

Generally, these types of injuries should be chilled to slow blood flow, which reduces swelling, pain, and further damage. Cold therapy is also an established practice used to treat migraine and other types of headaches. A typical course of cold therapy treatment is to apply ice for a specified period to the injured region of a limb, the neck, face, or head. Alternatively, a pack or bag containing a chemical agent that reacts (endothermically) to produce cold may be applied to the injured region, the neck, face, or head.

摘要： In one embodiment consistent with the present invention a method of treating mammalian meibomian glands involves clearing the glands by applying a regulated heat to an eyelid containing the meibomian glands to a temperature adequate to melt obstructions in the meibomian glands to put the obstructions in a fluid or suspension (melted) state and maintaining the heat for a time period adequate to melt the obstructions. The glands can then be mechanically treated to express fluid from the glands, wherein the treating is carried out either during the time period or after the time period but while the obstruction remains in a fluid state. Subsequent pharmacological treatment of the glands by use a pharmacological agent (topical or systemic) can then be used to assist in maintaining proper flow of lipids from the glands. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.

摘要： A container has an impermeable outer membrane sized to fit generally within the peri-orbital region and sufficiently flexible to mold to the structure of the closed eye. Heat which is generated by an exothermic reaction inside the container, which provides steady-state heat to the eyelids. A soft, non-abrasive, lint-free material is presoaked in a pH controlled (preferably antibacterial and hypoallergenic) detergent, with or without an ophthalmic antibiotic solution. The compress may also have a handle which makes holding and maneuvering the compress more feasible, while protecting the user's fingers from the heat, and preventing the contamination of the compress by the fingers. The compress may be packed in a watertight, sterile wrapper which will prevent drying of the detergent solution. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
