    • A soft polycarbonate resin represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein A represents a polyether block consisting essentially of a structural unit represented by formula (II):--CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --O-- (II)and a structural unit represented by formula (III): ##STR2## wherein one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represents a hydrogen atom and the other represents a methyl group;B represents a carbonate oligomer block represented by formula (IV): ##STR3## wherein X represents at least one linking group selected from ##STR4## --O--, --S--, --SO.sub.2 --, --SO--, and ##STR5## R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each represents at least one of a hydrogen atom and a hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2 each represents at least one of a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom and a hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; m and n each represents 0 or an integer of from 1 to 4; and M represents an integer of from 1 to 10; and L represents an integer of from 7 to 30, said polyether block A being present in a proportion of from 20 to 50% by weight based on the polycarbonate resin and having a number average molecular weight of from 500 to 3000, and the structural unit represented by formula (III) being present in a proportion of from 5 to 35% by weight based on the polyether block A. The soft polycarbonate resin has a high tensile elongation and excellent low-temperature characteristics.

    • In an elevator, for controlling the upward and downward movement of a cage, a shoe is brought into and out of pressing contact with a drum or a disk of a brake by a combination of a spring and a hydraulic cylinder. The optimum braking force is determined in accordance with the inertial mass and the speed of the cage to be braked, and the fluid pressure is controlled to control the force of pressing of the shoe against the drum or the disk, so that the brake can always produce the optimum braking force. A controller for controlling the pressure of the hydraulic cylinder is operated by an emergency power source. The brake can be controlled with a high responsibility and its braking force can be controlled arbitrarily, and even in the event of a power failure, the brake can be operated by the emergency power source of a small-capacity. Therefore, in the normal condition, the cage can be held accurately in its stop position, and in the event of an emergency, the optimum braking force is produced in accordance with the load and the speed of the cage, and the shortest braking distance can be achieved with a small braking impact.

    • A roof structure for a vehicular sun-roof device is provided including a roof panel having an upper and lower face and an opening therein. A downwardly bent extension projects downward from the roof panel. A stiffener is mounted between the downwardly bent extension and the lower face of the roof panel. A marginal opening edge is formed by the downwardly bent extension and the stiffener and includes a lower end. A sun-roof frame is operatively positioned and affixed adjacent to and spaced from the marginal opening edge. A seal is provided attached to the lower end of the marginal opening edge for abutting against the sun-roof frame to close the space between the marginal opening edge and the sun-roof frame. The roof structure reduces the space necessary to support a sun-roof device thereby increasing the area of the opening in the roof panel.

    • An engine comprising a fuel injector, an oxygen concentration detector and an electronic control unit. In the electronic control unit, a basic fuel injection time period is calculated, and a correction valve of the basic fuel injection time period is calculated on the basis of the output signal of the oxygen concentration detector.
