    • A method for routing data in a network is disclosed. As an example, a method for routing data in a wireless mesh network is disclosed. The method determines what type of data is to be routed, associates the type of data with one or more routing link performance parameters such as, for example, link latency and link capacity, selects a plurality of nodes based on the one or more routing link performance parameters, determines what node of the plurality of nodes provides an optimal level of performance associated with the one or more routing link performance parameters, and selects that node as a recipient node for the data to be routed.

    • Included in a wireless communication network having a plurality of base stations capable of communicating with a plurality of mobile stations located in a coverage area of the network is a redundancy controller. The redundancy controller is capable of detecting a failure in one of the base stations. The redundancy controller is also capable of causing one of the other base stations to use a predetermined amount of its total communication capacity to communicate with mobile stations in a coverage area of the failed base station. The redundancy controller may select all base stations having coverage areas nearby to that of the failed base station and cause all those base stations to use an amount of their total communication capacity to communicate with mobile stations in the coverage area of the failed base station.

    • An automatic repeat request (ARQ) receiver is provided. The ARQ receiver comprises a receiver configured to receive a plurality of ARQ blocks. The ARQ receiver further comprises a processor configured to generate a feedback message configured to provide status of the plurality of ARQ blocks. The feedback message comprises an acknowledgement sequence number (ACK_SN) field and a flag field. The processor is configured to provide a first value in the flag field if the feedback message contains only the ACK_SN field and the flag field. The processor is also configured to provide a second value in the flag field if the feedback message contains one or more fields in addition to the ACK_SN field and the flag field.
