摘要： A method for communication includes establishing a first connection between a wireless terminal and a base station of a long-range wireless data network, which operates in accordance with a first protocol that defines a sequence of time frames for transmission of data between the wireless terminal and the base station. A signal is sent from the wireless terminal to the base station identifying an interval including one or more of the time frames during which the wireless terminal will not receive data from the base station. During the interval, a second connection is established between the wireless terminal and an access point of a wireless local area network (WLAN) in accordance with a second protocol, different from the first protocol.

摘要： A method is provided to automatically identify noise events in a channel of a communication system comprising the steps of: receiving an input signal from the channel; determining the mean energy of the input signal; determining the recent energy of the input signal; identifying a beginning of the noise event when the recent energy is greater than the product of the mean energy and a predefined first threshold; identifying an end of a noise event when the recent energy is less that the product of the mean energy and a predefined second threshold; and providing for output the beginning of the noise event and the end of the noise event. 摘要： The detection of symbols in digital burst transmissions is improved by an equalizer (30) that initializes the values of only a subset of its filter coefficients (C, D), and thereafter begins to decode the symbols using an iterative, decision directed algorithm that determines all of its filter coefficients. This can advantageously provide an acceptable trade-off between computational complexity and equalizer performance.
