    • A device for administering a liquid into the body of a person through a natural orifice, e.g., the anus or vagina, while the person is seated on a toilet. The device comprises a base unit, an extendable tube having a distal end, and a vessel containing the liquid for introduction into person. The base unit comprises a saddle arranged for disposition under the toilet seat and configured to be disposed between the buttocks of the person when he/she is seated the seat. A positionable guide tube extends through a portion of the saddle from an entrance point adjacent the front of the toilet to an opening located at a position adjacent the natural orifice, e.g., anus or vagina, when the person is seated. The extendable tube has a distal end portion arranged to be inserted by the person into the guide tube and through the opening, and the guide tube is arranged to be slid with respect to the saddle, so that the distal end portion of the extendable tube is directed upward and enters the natural orifice. The vessel is coupled to the extendable tube by a pump and associated connector so that the liquid within the vessel can be pumped through the extendable tube into the person's body.

    • An instrument and methods of making and use for sealing a small, e.g., percutaneous, incisions or punctures. The instrument in the form of a tubular member having a plug therein. The tubular member includes a proximally located piston and a distally located portion having an open free end for introduction into the incision or puncture. The plug comprises a cord and a thin filament, with the cord being formed of a resorbable material and being folded in two to form an apex portion and a pair of wing portions extending therefrom. The filament is secured to the apex portion. The plug is located within the tubular member so that the apex portion is disposed adjacent the free end and with the wing portions and the filament extending toward the proximally located portion. The plug is then expelled partially from the tubular member so that the apex portion extends through the incision or puncture. The filament is then drawn proximally direction to pull the apex portion into engagement with the free end of the tubular member to expand the apex portion to form a head having a tissue engagement surface. The plug is then drawn back through the incision or puncture so that the tissue engagement surface intimately engages the tissue contiguous with the incision or puncture.

    • A device for sealing an opening or puncture in the wall of a blood vessel, duct or other lumen of a living being. The device includes an elongated tubular body having an outlet at the distal end thereof and which is arranged to be inserted, such as percutaneously, through the puncture in the blood vessel so that the outlet is located within the vessel's interior. An expandible closure is disposed within the tubular body and is formed so as to be held in a compact configuration therein. The tubular body also includes ejecting means for forcing the closure out of the outlet into the interior of the blood vessel, whereupon the closure automatically expands to form an enlarged engagement surface. A retraction filament is secured to the closure for pulling it to the puncture after the tubular body has been withdrawn from the puncture so that the engagement surface of the closure means hemostatically engages the inner surface of the blood vessel contiguous with the puncture. The filament held taut and taped or otherwise secured in place on the patient's skin to hold the closure in position. The closure and filament are each formed of a biodegradable material to enable the closure to be left in place. Preferably the closure also includes a non-thrombogenic coating on its surface. The closure is constructed so that when it is opened and is in place sealing the puncture in the blood vessel it doesn't appreciably block the flow of any blood through the blood vessel.

    • A system for sealing a percutaneous puncture in a blood vessel in a living being and method of use thereof. The system includes a hemostatic closure, a blood vessel locator device for determining the position of the blood vessel via the percutaneous puncture, and a deployment instrument for deploying the closure within the puncture to seal the puncture. The vessel locator includes means for enabling blood from the vessel to flow therethrough so that the position of the vessel can be rapidly determined. Once the vessel has been located the deployment instrument, which includes a tubular carrier storing the closure, is extended into the puncture to deploy the closure. The closure basically comprises a radiopaque rigid anchor for location within the blood vessel, a compressed collagen plug for location within the puncture tract leading to the vessel, and a thin filament connecting the two in a pulley-like arrangement. The deployment instrument also includes a tamper which is used to mechanically deform the plug within the tract. Once the closure is positioned hemostasis occurs rapidly, thereby locking the closure in place.
