    • A network device that controls the communication of data frames between stations includes receive ports that receive data frames from the stations. The network device also includes a memory that stores address information and data forwarding information associated with the received data frames. The network device further includes processing logic that processes and forwards the received data frames in accordance with one of two protocols. In accordance with a first protocol, the network device forwards the data frames to their destinations without modifying the respective data frames. In accordance with a second protocol, the network device may modify the data frames before forwarding the data frames to their respective destinations.

    • An integrated multiport switch operating in a packet switched network provides the capability via distributed egress logic to alter VLAN tags on a port by port basis. An internal rules checker (IRC) analyzes the header of a data frame to determine the frame type: untagged, VLAN-tagged, or priority-tagged. The IRC searches the untagged set table for the set of ports that are untagged for a particular VLAN. The IRC passes a forwarding descriptor that includes the frame type and a operational code (opcode) to a Port Vector FIFO logic (PVF). The PVF is responsible for creating a new opcode that instructs a dequeuing logic to add, remove, modify the VLAN tag, or send the frame unmodified. The opcodes generated by the PVF are individualized for each output port.

    • A tamper resistant safety gun lock (20) utilizes a case (22) having opposing sidewalls (24, 26) and at least one lateral wall (42, 48, 62) to inhibit access to crucial components of a firearm (28). A plurality of gun anchor posts (34) are selectively positionable inside of the case (22), so that the case (22) may be adapted for different types of firearms (28). The gun anchor posts (34) are held in a perforated plate (74) and have a flat disk (68) at one end which is held between the perforated (74) plate and one of the sidewalls. Because the flat disk (68) is held between the perforated plate (74) and one of the sidewalls the gun anchors (34) are generally inaccessible from the exterior of the case. The tamper resistant safety gun lock (20) is provided with a lock mechanism (32) which utilizes a catch (100) extending inwardly from a lateral lock wall. (48). The catch (100) is covered to make the case (22) difficult to pry open. Further, the lock mechanism utilizes a latch plate (92) having a width perpendicular to an opening direction (106) of the case (22) to provide additional strength against the case (22) being pried open.

    • A bolt having an opening formed therethrough is slidably located in the bore of the gun. The bolt is held in a rear position by a sear with the bolt opening closed by a valve which extends into the bolt opening and engages a rear facing bolt seat. A passageway extends into the bolt opening for allowing pressurized gas to flow into the bolt opening. A trigger mechanism releases the bolt for allowing the bolt to be moved forward for allowing the valve and seat to separate for allowing the gas to flow through the bolt opening for forcing a ball from the rear end of the barrel out of the gun. The valve and bolt are constructed to allow initially a small amount of gas to flow through the gas outlet of the bolt and then to allow the full force of the gas to flow through the gas outlet. This causes the ball to start rolling before the full force of the air impacts the ball thereby minimizing breakage of the ball in the gun barrel.
