    • Consistency of document reprints is improved by recording characteristics of a reference printing system used to produce a reference printing of a document, determining related characteristics of a reprint printing system, retrieving the recorded characteristics and compensating for differences between the reference system and the reprint system in the reprint system prior to using the reprint system to produce reprints of the document. Analytical test prints (TPs) are produced with the respective printing systems in close temporal association to the production of the respective reference prints and reprints. TPs can be customized according to aspects of the document. TP customization allows the compensation to address aspects of the printing systems that have a bearing on perceived consistency in the reprints. TPs can be customized with regard to colors in test patches or both the colors and locations of test patches on a page. Compensation is based on measurements of the TPs.

    • A development system including a developer transport adapted for depositing developer material on an imaging surface having an electrostatic latent image thereon, including a housing defining a chamber storing a supply of developer material including toner. A donor member is mounted partially in said chamber and spaced from the imaging surface, for transporting developer on an outer surface thereof to a region opposed from the imaging surface. The donor member has a magnetic assembly, which includes a plurality of poles, and a sleeve, enclosing said magnetic assembly and rotating about said magnetic assembly. A sensor measures a magnetic field of said donor roll at a predefined position on said donor roll. A magnetic system generates a magnetic field to reduce developer bed height of said developer material on said donor member in a development zone.

    • A contact charging system uniformly charges a photoconductive surface by the use of a resistive belt surrounding and moved by two rollers and in contact with the photoconductive surface. The roller at the pre-nip area is grounded while that at the post-nip area is kept at a desired high potential. Alternatively, a pair of shoes are used for contact charging a photoconductive surface with one of the shoes being grounded and the other being biased to a desired DC potential by a biasing source. A resistive film is in contact with the pair of shoes with both the film and shoes being in contact with the photoconductive surface. Also, a blade is used to uniformly charge a photoconductive surface with one portion of the blade being grounded and another portion being biased to a desired DC potential. The blade is in direct contact with the photoconductive surface. This charging system tailors the electric field so that air breakdown only occurs at the post-nip area.

    • Fixing devices for fixing marking material to a web, printing apparatuses and methods of fixing marking material to a web are provided. An exemplary embodiment of the fixing devices includes a first roll including a heated outer surface; a second roll forming a fixing nip with the outer surface of the first roll at which a continuous web on which marking material is disposed is received; a third roll positioned to contact the web prior to entering the fixing nip; and an adjustment mechanism connected to the third roll. The adjustment mechanism is operable to move the third roll to vary a wrap length of the web contacting the outer surface of the first roll upstream from the fixing nip to control pre-heating of the web and marking material by contact with the outer surface prior to entering the fixing nip. The first roll and second roll are operable to apply heat and pressure to the pre-heated web and marking material at the fixing nip to fix the marking material to the web.
