    • An image contour enhancing device for enhancing contours in images in an image data formed by a plurality of pixel data includes differentiation circuits for differentiating the image data to produce first and second order differentiation signals. The first order differentiation signal represents an image data portion corresponding to front and rear edges of the contour, and the second order differentiation signal represents first and second half portions in each of the front and rear edges of the contour. The second order differentiation is used for a time modulation signal applied to a time modulation circuit to modulate in the time domain the image data in response to the time modulation signal such that the first half portion in the front and rear edges of the contour is delayed, and the second half portion in the front and rear edges of the contour is advanced.

    • An electrophotographic recording apparatus comprises means for accurately detecting the amount of consumption of a developer still by means of a simple construction and also means for outputting a signal for indicating to resupply the developer at proper timing. Since the amount of consumption of the developer is substantially proportional to the number of illuminated dots produced by exposing means, a CPU reads, at every predetermined period, output count values of a counter, which counts the number of illuminated dots produced by the exposing means, and integrally adds up the output count values. Then, the CPU compares the integration result of the output count values with a predetermined value and thereby decides a shortage of the developer. On the other hand, since the deterioration of a developer is substantially proportional to the operation time period of developing means, the CPU integrally adds up the operation time periods of the developing means, compares the integration result of the operation time periods of the developing means with a predetermined time and thereby decides the deterioration of the developer. When the shortage or deterioration of the developer has been detected, the apparatus outputs a signal for indicating to resupply the developer.

    • A key generation section 10 generates a key K to be used for cryptographic processing, based on an encrypted key data group EK. A key information retention/selection section 20 retains Lhe generated key and an intermediate key which was obtained when generating the key, and outputs the retained key information in accordance with selection information SEL. The key information is retained, e.g., in a storage circuit within the integrated circuitry, in a form which is not recognizable as a key. A content encryption/decryption section 30 restrains the cryptographic processing result DO from being outputted during key generation. When a heading pattern is detected during the cryptographic processing of an input signal DI, a reset/input enable signal generation circuit 60 switches an input enable signal IE to a disabled state, and outputs a reset signal RST after Lhe cryptographic processing has been completed.
