摘要： The system provides a projection-type video display device with high image quality and high reliability. The system improves color purity by cutting the yellow component from red and green, enhances the optical energy balance of the three colors by providing a reflection-type attenuation filter for reflecting light in the green optical path. The system also improves contrast characteristics by providing an optical phase difference compensator in the green optical path and increases durability of a video display element by arranging two optical parts having ultraviolet reflection coating in the blue optical path. Also an ultraviolet absorption filter for the incidence side of a blue liquid crystal panel is described.

摘要： In the image display device, a projection lens including a plurality of lenses for enlarging an image from an image display element is constituted of a front group and a rear group. The rear group includes at least one free-shaped-surface lens including a surface having a rotationally asymmetrical shape. Furthermore, the device includes at least one free-shaped-surface mirror having a rotationally asymmetrical reflection surface. Accordingly, a set can be formed to be compact while correcting trapezoidal distortion and aberration.

The area of the substantially wedged section of the light absorption piece is equal to or larger than one-third of the area of a trapezoid bordering the substantially wedged section, and equal to or smaller than two-thirds thereof.

摘要： The present invention provides a projection type image display device capable of affording a bright display of a high saturation and capable of ensuring a high reliability of optical parts. The projection type image display device is provided with a color synthesizer for color-synthesizing modulated and polarized light of red light, green light, and blue light, outputted from an image display element. The color synthesizer has an optical characteristic such that the transmittance including reflection by a reflecting film in the interior of the color synthesizer becomes highest for the polarized light of blue light out of the modulated and polarized light of red light, that of green light, and that of blue light. The color synthesizer also has an optical characteristic such that the quantity of the polarized light of blue light outputted becomes largest out of the modulated and polarized light of red light, green light, and blue light.
