摘要： A method, system and software for establishing a secure communications channel between repositories using a repository transaction protocol, including generating a registration identifier and registration message including an identification certificate, and an identifier of a master repository that encrypted the identification certificate; receiving the registration message and verifying the identity by verifying the identification certificate; validating the authenticity, including, generating a message to test the authenticity, sending the generated message, and verifying if upon receiving the generated message whether the generated message is correctly processed; and exchanging messages including a session key used for communications and transactions including generating a request for a digital work, associating usage rights information with the request for digital work, and determining if the usage rights information associated with the request corresponds to usage rights associated with the digital work. The usage rights define a manner in which the digital work is used or distributed.

摘要： A system and method for using banded topic relevance and time for article prioritization is provided. Articles of digital information and at least one social index are maintained. The social index includes topics that each relate to one or more of the articles. Fine-grained topic models matched to the digital information for each topic are retrieved. The articles are succinctly classified under the topics using the fine-grained topic models. Each of the articles is relevancy scored within the topic under which the article was classified. The articles are arranged into discrete bands by relevance score. The articles are temporally sorted within the discrete bands. The articles are presented within the discrete bands.

摘要： A system and method for providing default hierarchical training for social indexing is provided. Articles of digital information for social indexing are maintained. A hierarchically-structured tree of topics is specified. Each topic includes a label that includes one or more words. Constraints inherent in the literal structure of the topic tree are identified. For each topic in the topic tree, a topic model that includes at least one term derived from the words in at least one of the labels is created. The topic models for the topic tree are evaluated against the constraints. Those of the topic models, which best satisfy the constraints are identified.

摘要： A system and method for providing a topic-directed search is provided, which advantageously harnesses user-provided topical indexes and an ability to characterize indexes according to how articles fall under their topical organizations. A corpus of articles and an index that includes topics from the articles is maintained. For each topic, a coarse-grained topic model is built, which includes the characteristic words included in the articles relating to the topic and scores assigned to the characteristic words. A search query is executed against the index. The topics that match the search terms are chosen by their scores. The topics that match the coarse-grained topic models and the articles corresponding to the search query are presented. In contrast to conventional search engines, search results are organized according to topic and search results can be offered across multiple indexes, where part of returned results are selected from most-relevant indexes with their most-relevant topics.
