    • Method and apparatus to facilitate the use of advanced shipping notification in commerce through a web portal, especially for direct store and cross dock delivery. Through a web portal, users transfer order information to business partners, generate serialized shipping container codes, generate and print container labels, and send and receive EDI communications. Through such portal, users assign items to individual containers, and generate and print corresponding labels having standardized information. Through such portal, orders are handled and processed more efficiently; reports are uploaded and shared; orders are tracked and audited; multiple suppliers may appear as one entity; and, multiple business partners and business partner locations receive standardized information about products or items, orders, and shipping containers. Through such portal, business partners provide feedback on any variances between advanced shipping notifications and items actually delivered. Such portal automates tasks traditionally performed by several systems and eliminates manual steps involved in delivering, tracking and auditing items such as goods.

    • Methods, systems, and associated devices for supplying support members to a product loading station, loading, and automatically removing loaded members therefrom include: (a) advancing in spaced-apart relationship, a plurality of carrier members having opposing first and second ends and an associated width and length, along a selected travel path to a loading station; (b) presenting, in serial order, the carrier members to the loading station in a substantially horizontal orientation; (c) discharging elongated product from a winder arm that moves in a selected pattern about the carrier member at the loading station; (d) straddling elongated product over each respective carrier member at the loading station responsive to the discharging step so that portions of the elongated product are serially draped over the carrier member along a length thereof, the straddling being carried out so that certain lengths of the elongated product hang from opposing sides of the carrier member; and (e) advancing the carrier members loaded with the straddled product away from the loading station along the selected travel path to cause the loaded members to travel downstream of the loading station. The loaders may be configured with winding mechanisms that wind elongated products directly onto elongated support members, such as bars, sticks, or rods, by causing the arm to follow a repetitive motion pattern above and below the stick or rod to discharge the elongated product in a winding motion onto the bar, stick, or rod so that they loop or drape directly onto the rod, stick, bar or other desired food support is also described. The loader may be in cooperating alignment with a packing mechanism that re-distributes the straddled product so that adjacent suspended regions reside more closely together on the carrier members.

    • A self-sealing male connector includes a tubular male body and an elastomeric resilient tip disposed on the distal end of the tubular male body. The elastomeric tip has a transverse size that is greater that the size of a female connector and a shape that differs from the female shape so that engagement of the two will result in reshaping the male tip to the shape of the female flow channel and the male will create a seal with the channel. The male tip is formed with a slit and a hollow core that provides a flow passage formed in the male body. As the male tip is reshaped due to engagement with a female connector, the slit opens to establish fluid flow through the male connector. In one embodiment, the transverse shape of the male tip is elliptical having a major axis along which the slit is formed. In one embodiment, the male tip is oversized in all transverse dimensions and forms an edge seal with the female connector at first contact. The proximal end of the male connector may be configured as a conventional female connector, a blood collection device, or other device. The male body can have a Luer shape.

    • A gel-type adhesive composite bandage (10) is provided which can be used in the treatment of fungus-involved or discolored toe nails, or for general wound treatment. The bandage (10) includes a base (12) having a preformed recess (16), with a humectant-containing gel (18) within the recess (16). An adhesive-coated web (14) is applied over the base (12) and gel (18). The web (14) is strippable from the base (12) with the gel (18) adhered to the web (14). In the use, the web (14) is removed from the base (12), and the exposed gel (18) is applied directly to the affected toe mail or wound. The remaining portions of the adhesive-coated web (14) is then used to maintain the web (14) and gel (18) in place. The gel (18) preferably includes a polymeric matrix having a substantial quantity of water soluble humectant (for example, glycerin) entrapped within the matrix.
