The charge transport layer (11d) as the surface layer is charged and exposed so that a latent image is formed thereon. In order to form a basic dot whose diameter is from 10 μm to 25 μm, a thickness t (μm) of the charge transport layer (11d) and a diameter D (μm) of the basic dot satisfy the relationship of t≦D/2.

摘要： A consumable cartridge is attached to a mounting portion of a body of a color image forming apparatus and holds a predetermined color developer. The consumable cartridge may take a process cartridge that includes a recording device and a controller. The recording device stores information on the consumable cartridge, the information including at least color information of the color developer. The controller transmits the information to the body of the image forming apparatus. The controller detects whether the consumable cartridge has been attached to the color image forming section. The controller compares the information on the body of image forming apparatus with the information on the consumable cartridge to determine whether the consumable cartridge has been misplaced. If the consumable cartridge has been misplaced, the controller indicates to an operator that the consumable cartridge has been misplaced.

摘要： A color image forming apparatus is capable of color printing and monochrome printing in accordance with print data. The apparatus has a plurality of image-forming sections that print toner images of corresponding different colors. The plurality of image-forming sections are aligned in a direction of travel of a recording medium, and print the respective toner images on the recording medium in superposition. The toner images are subsequently fixed at a fixing unit. The apparatus includes a data-identifying section and a mode-selecting section. The data-identifying section identifies the print data as to whether the print data is for color printing or for monochrome printing. The mode-selecting section selects a multi-color mode if the print data is for color printing and a mono-color mode if the print data is for mono-color printing. A printing operation is performed at a higher speed in the mono-color mode than in the multi-color mode. The mode-selecting section sets the fixing unit for a higher fixing temperature in the mono-color mode than in the multi-color mode.

摘要： An image forming apparatus having a unit for charging the surface of an image carrier uniformly with electricity, the charging unit being contacted by a conductive element which changes a polarity of toner adhering to the unit, a unit for forming an electrostatic latent image on the surface of the image carrier charged electrically, a unit for developing the electrostatic latent image formed on the surface of the image carrier to thereby form a toner image and a means for transferring and fixing the toner image to a transfer member. The developing unit includes a developing roller which is disposed so as to contact the image carrier. The developing roller is connected to a power source for charging the toner particles on the developing roller with electricity with the same polarity as the charging polarity of the the image carrier, and for applying an electric potential to the developing roller so that the toner particles remaining on the developing roller are stuck to an image portion of the image carrier and the toner particles remaining on a non-image portion of the image carrier are attracted by the developing roller. The developing roller rotates in the direction opposite to that of the image carrier and a peripheral velocity of the developing roller exceeds 1.2 times that of the image carrier. Since the collected toner particles are not necessary to be disposed of, the environment is not polluted and the efficiency of using the toner is improved.
