    • A chirped RZ-AMI optical transmitter includes a first logic gate for receiving a first signal obtained by pre-coding binary data and a second signal having a waveform obtained by inverting and delaying the first signal, and outputting a third signal obtained by logically operating on the first and second signals. A second logic gate receives a fourth signal having a waveform obtained by inverting the first signal, and a fifth signal having a waveform obtained by delaying the first signal.     • An optical receiving apparatus for reducing crosstalk in a WDM communication system is disclosed. The receiving device includes a wavelength division de-multiplexer for receiving and de-multiplexing a first multiplexed optical signal and a second multiplexed optical signal, a first receiver for photo-electrically converting the first optical signal input from the wavelength division de-multiplexer into a first data signal, a second receiver for photo-electrically converting the second optical signal input from the wavelength division de-multiplexer and dividing the photo-electrically converted signal into a first division signal and a second division signal according to power and a compensator for inversing the second division signal and combining the inversed signal with the first data signal, thereby generating a signal compensating for crosstalk.

    • A differential polarization shift-keying optical transmission system includes a transmitter unit for precoding inputted data to form a precoded signal and generate a polarization-modulated optical signal using the precoded signal. The system further includes a receiver unit connected with the transmitter unit via an optical fiber for optical transmission. The receiver unit includes a delay interferometer for splitting the optical signal into first and second split optical signals, generating a delayed optical signal by causing the second split signal to be delayed 1 bit, generating a phase-inverted optical signal by inverting the phase of a part of the first split signal, and generating generate constructive-interferential and destructive-interferential optical signals by causing respective parts of the delayed signal to interfere with another part of the first split signal and with the phase-inverted signal. A balanced receiver in the receiver unit outputs a differential signal corresponding to a difference between the constructive-interferential and destructive-interferential optical signals.
