摘要： The prediction error value calculated by a motion estimating portion is used for selecting the frame or field orthogonal transform coding mode. The frame prediction error value EFr and the field prediction error value EFi are calculated by the motion estimating portion and entered into a comparator of an orthogonal transform mode selecting portion which in turn compares them with each other and generates an orthogonal transform mode selecting signal TC. The use of the prediction error values for selecting the orthogonal transform mode makes it possible to reduce the size of the necessary hardware and saves much time of data processing necessary for judgment of the orthogonal transform mode selection.

A joining method selector (104) selects the joining method that minimizes the discontinuity at the boundary in the joined image when the sub-sampled images of data are joined. A joining portion (102) joins the plurality of images data, based on the selected joining method. An encoder (103) encodes the joined image data, and a joining method encoder (105) encodes the information of the joining method. A multiplexer (106) multiplexes these pieces of coded data. In this way, the continuity of the joined image is improved, whereby the coding efficiency is enhanced.

摘要： A server (1) analyses the request information transmitted from a client (11) by means of a request analyzer 4 and selects the necessary image data from multiple viewpoint image data (2) to output it to an image generator (3), where image data for the requested viewpoint is generated by interpolation to be output to an image synthesizer (5). In the image synthesizer (5), a plurality of images data are synthesized in a form suitable for encoding. An encoder (6) encodes the image data at a suitable bit rate and transfers it to a network (7). The client (11) receives the encoded image data, decodes the data through a decoder (12) and outputs the decoded image data to an image processor (13), where the image data is converted into an appropriate form in conformity with a stereoscopic display format and is displayed on a display unit (14). The client (11) also includes an input unit (16) for change of the viewpoint, and transmits the request information of viewpoint alternation to the network (7) by means of a request output unit (15). Thus this system enables observation of a stereoscopic image viewed from an arbitrary viewpoint even with a mobile terminal or the like.

摘要： A moving picture coder has a first coding mode in which the entire picture is coded and a second coding mode in which a partial region of the picture is coded. Coding is so performed that the frame rate inside the partial region is higher than that outside the partial region. To perform such coding, the coder comprises a region selecting section (201) for selecting the partial region, a shape coding section (202) for coding is the shape of the partial region, a moving picture coding section (204) for coding only the values of the pixels inside the partial region according to the selected region, and a coding control section (205). A moving picture decoder decodes a picture in the second mode by superimposing decoded picture data of the partial region of the picture in the second mode on the decoded picture data of the entire picture in the first mode.
