    • Minilab paper processors are known for giving an exposure to photographic paper, processing the exposed paper and then drying the paper to produce photographic prints corresponding to negative filmstrips. Such processors have a second entry slot to the processing stage thereof through which a test strip can be introduced for processing. Described herein is an adapter for utilizing the second entry slot to supply paper for processing in the processor which has been exposed in apparatus other than that processor. The adapter comprises an elongate portion, which engages with the second entry slot of the processor section, a central slot, and a recess, lined with velvet plush material to ensure that the connection is light-tight, for receiving a cassette containing a roll of previously exposed photographic paper. One end of the cassette has an elongate protrusion having a slot formed therein and through which the paper can pass. The protrusion engages with the recess in adapter so that slot is aligned with slot to allow paper to pass from the cassette and into the processor section. A pair of guides are located beneath entry slot to guide the paper into drive rollers of the processor section.

    • Described herein is a buffer device for use with photographic processing apparatus which provides a buffer for solution being fed to or collected from the apparatus. The buffer device (18) comprises a flexible plastic concertina-shaped container (30) having a volume appropriate to the apparatus with which it is to be used. The container (30) is preferably constructed to be normally-closed and requires liquid pressure to open it. The container (30) is fixed at its upper end (38) and its lower end (40) is free to move downwardly when liquid enters it. An index member (32) is attached to the lower end (40) and this member (32) cooperates with a position sensor to indicate to an operator whether the container (30) is "not empty", "not full" or "full".

    • It is well known to attach clips carrying photographic material to a belt for transport through processing apparatus. However, known clips have the disadvantage of distorting the belt to which they are attached which eventually leads to belt damage. Described herein is an improved belt/clip arrangement in which `Velcro` material is utilized to provide the releasable attachment. A belt (10) carries a plurality of patches (12) which comprise hook material. A clip (26) carries the corresponding loop material and is pressed firmly to the belt (10) so that at least two of the patches (12) are covered by the clip (26). The clip (26) can be detached from the belt (10) by positioning a wedge to pass between the clip (26) and the belt (10) or alternatively, the belt (10) may be passed over a tight radius to effect detachment.

    • It is known to use continuous belts for transporting photographic material through large multi-stranded photographic processing machines so that the material is pulled and guided through each of the processing stages in the machine. The belt is arranged to run on one side of the material path and special spring clips are used to attach the material to the belt. However, the spring clips tend to damage the belt and reduce its operational life. Described herein is a belt arrangement for which clips are not required. A continuous belt (60) having a plurality of slots (68) formed therein is arranged to travel in the material processing path, the belt extending across substantially the entire width of the processing path. Material (70, 72) to be processed is threaded through one of the slots (68) in the belt (60) and folded over. This belt arrangement allows unstable chemistries, such as redox amplification chemistry, to be used in large processing machines by reducing the volumes of processing solutions required.

    • In known processing apparatus of the dip-and-dunk type, processing tanks are arranged in a predetermined order, and the material to be processed follows a predetermined sequence as a support on which the material is mounted is moved from the start to the end of the apparatus. Described herein is an improved photographic processing apparatus (100) comprising six processing tanks (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) which are surrounded by a frame (7, 8, 9) carrying a carriage (14). The carriage (14) is moved along cross-member (9) which itself can be raised or lowered relative to upright elements (7, 8). Motors (10, 11) are operated by a controller (15) to control movement of the carriage (14) and the cross-member (9) using belts (12, 13) and hence the movement of material (16) through the apparatus.
