    • A thin wall extruded flexible web is provided with laterally spaced longitudinally extending complementary resiliently flexible interlocking fastener profiles having an imperforate gusset forming web area therebetween which is collapsibly folded into a gusset extending in one direction away from the profiles. Portions of the plastic web are folded into free terminal digitally manipulatable bag mouth pull flanges projecting to a suitable length in the opposite direction from the profiles, with the remainder of the plastic web being collapsed toward the gusset into bag forming side wall panels and extending to a substantially greater length than the gusset for providing a substantial bag pouch into which the gusset projects only a limited extent, with the fastener profiles being then secured together into interlocking but releasable fastener relation. Several embodiments of the method are disclosed. Apparatus for practicing the method is disclosed.

    • A method of making an extruded construction for bags, comprising forming in an integral one piece plastic extrusion a flexible collapsibly foldable thin wall closure web area joined at its opposite ends to proximal ends of a pair of pull flange portions of substantial length, and as part of the extrusion forming separable resiliently flexible interlocking complementary fastener profiles adjacent to said proximal ends; collapsibly folding the closure web area away from the flange portions and the profiles, coupling the fastener profiles together, and enveloping the collapsibly folded closure web area within bag body side wall panels having end parts joined to the extrusion adjacent to the profiles. The side wall panels may be extruded integrally with the closure web area, the flange portions and the fastener profiles; or the side wall panels may be separately formed and sealed to the collapsibly folded closure web area or the flange portions adjacent to the profiles. The profiles may be extrusion molded on the pull flange portions or may be extrusion molded on the closure web area closely adjacent to the pull flange portions or may, in effect, be extrusion molded to the pull flange portions and the closure web area where they join together. Especially where the profiles are on the pull flange portions, the profiles may be efficiently cooled from both sides of the respective flange portions following the extrusion.The collapsibly folded closure web area may be formed into a funnel spout element for each bag or may serve simply as a hermetic seal until it is desired to open the associated bag which has been formed by hermetically sealing as necessary along edges of the side wall panels.

    • A separable fastener especially suitable for heavy duty sheet-like enclosures comprises complementary, resilient hooked rib and groove closure strips having angular hinged flange connections for attachment to generally coplanar enclosure sheet margins capable of acting as expansion joints permitting a range of pulling apart of said margins without disturbing the interlocking relationship of the ribs and grooves of the fastener strips. A simple U-shaped slider can be employed to effect closing only of the fastener, and a pull flange is provided for opening of the fastener when desired, but only with a degree of difficulty.

    • The present disclosure relates to a leakproof or leak-resistant slider zipper for reclosable packages or bags wherein the zipper profiles include upper flanges which are captured within horizontal channels of the slider. The horizontal channels are configured to be closer to each other at the closing end than at the opening end so as to urge the zipper profiles together at the closing end and apart at the opening end. The zipper profiles further include complementary interlocking elements as well as a lower bead and flap configuration wherein the flap remains urged against the bead in a leakproof or leak-resistant configuration throughout the entire length of the slider.

    • A process for manufacturing reclosable bags (30) by forming a film (50) includes moving the film (50) and attaching to the film (50) sequentially and crosswise with reference to the direction of movement of the film (50), a fastener (1) including a first strip (2) supporting at least one reclosable profile (10) engaged with another reclosable profile (12) that is complementary thereto and supported by a second strip (4) or a part of the first strip (2), which will subsequently be attached to the film (50). Each strip (2, 4) includes at least one web (6, 8) extending substantially mostly sideways on one side of the profiles (12). The above arrangements make possible special fasteners (1) that include sliders (9), gasket membranes (26), fasteners inverted within the bag (30), peel seals (18, 20, 21) and hinged fasteners (1).

    • The disclosure relates to various embodiments and alternatives for vertical form fill and seal methods and apparatus. In particular, two sheets of web are fed by forming collars to a fill tube (or in some embodiments, side by side fill tubes) wherein the sheets of web are wrapped approximately 180 degrees around the periphery of the fill tube. Zippers can be provided mounted transversely on the first sheet of web, mounted in the machine direction on the first sheet of web, or fed as a continuous length between the two longitudinal edges of the two sheets of web. Additionally, some embodiments fill side by side bags from a single fill tube. Other embodiments fill side by side bags from side by side fill tubes.
