    • A communication method for facilitating alteration of a transmission line in the case where the target device establishes a connection on the bus and thereby securing a transmission line in order to transmit stream data in a network of the IEEE 1394 scheme or the like. Stream data outputted from an output device connected to a predetermined network is received by an input device. When the output device or a different device has sent an order for setting so that output data of the output device may be inputted to a data input section of the input device, the input device conducts input setting based on the order. In addition, when the device which sent the order has sent an order to cancel the input setting, the input device conducts processing of canceling the input setting.

    • A period indicator including a liquid-permeable substrate and an indicative section which is overlaid on a portion of the substrate and which is formed from a liquid-permeable material having a low light refractive index, the indicator containing a volatile liquid, wherein the indicative section is formed by coating a surface of the substrate with an indicative-section-forming material prepared by mixing a binder and finely divided particulate matter having a low light refractive index, the indicative section is composed of two or more regions, and the regions differ in height from one another as measured from the surface of the substrate, as the coating amounts per unit area of the indicative section forming material in respective regions differ from one another. Since the period indicator can indicate the chemical-containing state stepwise, it is useful for indicating the available period of use of a chemical such as a mothproofing agent, an insecticide, a deodorant, or a fragrance.

    • An optical pickup records information on an optical recording medium and retrieves information from the optical recording medium by radiating a light beam on the optical recording medium. The optical pickup includes a light source which emits the light beam. The optical pickup also includes an object lens which directs the convergent light beam to a recording layer of the optical recording medium. The optical pickup further includes an aberration correction lens assembly located between the light source and the object lens. The aberration correction lens assembly includes at least one movable lens which is movable in an optical axis direction. The aberration correction lens assembly moves the movable lens to convert the light beam to a convergent light beam or a divergent light beam so as to correct spherical aberration. A distance between a principal plane of the aberration correction lens assembly on a light emergent side and a principal plane of the object lens falls within a range determined in accordance with a numerical aperture of the object lens, a focal length of the aberration correction lens assembly on the light emergent side, and a focal length of the object lens.
