    • A solid-state light source 10 compatible with existing sockets normally reserved for filamented lamps may be formed with a hollow base 12 formed to mechanically and electrically adapt to a socket. A sub-assembly 14 adapted to cooperate with and fit into the hollow base 12 comprises a metal core 16 having a bulbous body 18 and a narrow, depending foot 20. A circuit board 22 substantially surrounds the metal core 16 on two sides. The board 22 is preferably formed from a flexible printed circuit board material capable of sustaining a bend radius of at least 0.25 inches (6 mm). Solid-state light sources 30, for example, light emitting diodes (LEDs) are mechanically and electrically connected to one side of the circuit board by suitable electrically conductive traces. A glass dome 34 covers the sub-assembly 14 after it is inserted into the hollow base 12 and is sealed thereto.

    • A lamp, whether HID or other, can be conveniently held by with slip ring that compresses flexible arms against the lamp end. The arms are formed to conform on and inner side with and exterior portion of the lamp. On their exterior side of the arms are formed to mate in compression with a slip ring. By tapering the arms with respect the slip ring, and increasing pressure can be induced that flexes the arms to hold the lamp in place. The slip ring can be further formed to bind the slip ring with three clamp arms, and thereby resist disengagement of the structure once assembly is completed. The result is a securely held lamp accurately held by inexpensive parts adaptable to rapid machine assembly.

    • A first lamp base assembly is provided which includes two separate base components. The first base component is attachable to a lamp via a lamp retainer and to the second base component. The second base component is attachable to the first base component and to a connector. The first component includes a retainer clamp to the lamp. The retainer includes two parallel folded back walls. The retainer is then coupled to outward facing spring arms that slip behind the parallel walls. The retainer and spring arms are adjusted with in plane shifts, including rotations with respect to each other thereby providing final lamp adjustments. The walls and the spring arms are then welded with out pressing directly on the lamp. The spring arms may be further formed with heat conduction resistant slots. A lamp including the foregoing lamp base assemblies is also provided.

    • A waterproof portable lamp (10) comprises a housing (12); a light source (14) including a plurality of LEDs, a power supply (16) for said light source (14) and a switch (18) for energizing said light source (14) contained within said housing (12). An opening (20) is formed in said housing (12) permitting egress of light when said light source (14) is energized. A flexible, transparent cover (22) is peripherally sealed to said opening (20) in a watertight manner and a switch activator (24) is substantially centrally located on and fixed to said flexible, transparent cover (22). The lamp (10) is activated be depressing the center of the flexible cover (22), which moves the switch activator (24) into contact with the switch (18).

    • An LED lamp has a housing comprising a heat conductive body arrayed about a longitudinal axis with a tubular projection extending therefrom coaxial with the longitudinal axis. The tubular projection has a distal end attached to the heat conductive body and a proximal end opposite thereto. A motor is positioned within the tubular projection and has a tubular, vaned fan blade operatively connected thereto. A plurality of LED components is attached to an outside surface of the tubular projection at the proximal end. An air inlet is formed at the proximal end of the tubular projection and a plurality of air outlets are spaced about the tubular projection between the distal end of the tubular projection and the LED components. A base is operatively attached to the housing for attachment to a power supply.

    • A portable light (10) has a rigid base (12), a power supply (14) having first and second poles (16, 18) within the base and a light source (20) positioned in the base (12). The light source (20) has first and second lead-ins (22, 24). The first lead-in (22) is in contact with the first pole (16) of the power supply (14). Electrical isolation means (26) isolates the second lead-in (24) from the second pole (18) of the power supply (14); and a flexible cover (28) is fitted to the base (12). The cover (28) includes at least one portion (30) that is contactable with the second lead-in (24) whereby pressure on the at least one portion (30) defeats the electrical isolation means (26) and causes a connection between the second lead-in (24) and the second pole (18) of the power supply (14) to actuate the light source (20) while the pressure is being applied.
