    • A splice holder is provided for accommodating a plurality of splices of fiber optic cables. The holder is formed with a base from which extend a plurality of deflectable arms and obstruction walls. The arms are arranged in adjacent offset fashion with adjacent arms having a common deflection space in which deflection of the arms occur. Additionally, the obstruction walls are configured to simultaneously engage two different splices. The arrangement of the arms and the obstruction walls minimizes the required area of the splice holder.

    • An end cap for a telecommunications enclosure has a perimeter. The end cap has a plurality of cable receptacle tubes arranged around its perimeter. Each of the cable receptacle tubes has a plug at an end of the tube opposite the end cap. Each tube has a respective height. A first one of the tubes has the greatest height. Successive cable receptacle tubes on each side of the first tube decrease in height monotonically from the height of the first tube. The difference in height between two consecutive tubes is greater than or equal to a thickness of a blade used to cut the plug off of the tubes. The space between consecutive cable receptacle tubes is substantially less than a width of a blade used to cut the plug off of the tubes. The end cap may have a plane of symmetry passing through the highest cable receptacle tube. To use the end cap, the plug is cut off of the first (highest) cable receptacle tube. A cable is secured to the first tube. The plug is cut off of a second one of the cable receptacle tubes adjacent the first tube, the second tube being shorter than the first tube. Successive cables are added to the enclosure by alternately cutting off the end caps on opposite sides, so that the next end cap cut is always the largest end cap remaining.

    • A splice holder for securing and retaining fiber optic splices. The splice holder accommodates a higher density of splices than prior art splice holders, improves access to individual splices and minimizes interference to adjacent splices during removal. The splice holder comprises a plurality of parallel, spaced apart longitudinal members extending from a base. Adjacent pair of members define a channel for retaining a splice. Each channel is tilted having its longitudinal axis at an acute angle relative to the plane of the base such that a splice placed along a channel has one raised end further away from the bottom mounting surface of the base than the opposite end closer to the bottom mounting surface. The plurality of channels are alternatively tilted such that the channels are staggered at the front and rear edges of the base to facilitate access to the raised end of a splice without interfering with adjacent splices closer to the bottom mounting surface of the base.

Both the shell and base units have a hollow longitudinally extending body with an opening at the front and rear portions, respectively. On at least one of the inner sidewalls in the cavity of the body of the shell unit is a first set of teeth running horizontally to the longitudinal axis of the body. On at least one of the outer sidewalls on the body of the base unit is a corresponding second set of teeth running horizontally to the longitudinal axis of the body. The cavity of the base unit supports and receives a portion of a printed wiring board containing surge protective devices, which is connected to pins extending from the front portion of the body of the base unit. The body of the base unit, with the printed wiring board extending from the rear portion, advantageously fit within the cavity of the shell unit with the first set of teeth engaging and interlocking the second set of teeth to form the expandable housing unit. The overall length of the housing is variable depending on the extent base unit with the printed wiring board extending therefrom fits within the cavity of the shell unit.

During the wire-wrap procedure, the articulable wall section is latched in a position that permits the wire-wrap equipment to access the wire-wrap terminals without undesirable vertical movement of the wire-wrap equipment and wire. During the potting procedure, the articulable wall section is latched in a position in which the articulable wall section, together with another, non-articulable wall section, creates a substantially continuous wall about the bottom surface of the wire-wrap connector block base, defining a potting well or cavity within which potting material may be deposited.

    • A network interface device is attachable to an intermediate field of a building entrance protector unit. The network interface device includes a jack section having a jack which is designed to receive the plug of a standard telephone. The jack includes wire leads which may be connected to any of the terminals on the intermediate field. The jack section is mountable into a base module which is in turn attachable to the intermediate field by wedging a portion of the base module between adjacent terminals on the intermediate field. A plug section is pivotally connected to the jack section by a living hinge. The plug section includes a plug having a pair of conductive blades therein. The network interface device performs a connecting function when the plug is pivoted to a position within the jack, and the conductive blades establish an electrical connection between the wire leads connected to the telephone company network and the wire leads connected to the customer equipment. When there is a need to disconnect the customer from the telephone company network or to test the system, the plug can simply be pivoted out of the jack, and a standard working telephone can be plugged into the jack for line testing purposes.
