    • The invention discloses a method (200, 300, 400) for traffic control in a cellular telephony system (100) comprising a number of cells, each cell comprising at least one Radio Base Station, RBS, (170). The system (100) comprises at least one Radio Network Controller, RNC, (110 130 150), for the control of a number of Radio Base stations. The traffic between an RBS and an RNC comprises a number of flows. The invention is intended for the control of flows from the Radio Base Stations to their RNC. The method uses one control function for each flow from each of said Radio Base Stations, and also comprises a congestion detection function (220) which detects the presence or absence of congestion in the traffic from an RBS to an RNC, and which, upon detection of congestion reduces the bit rate of the congested traffic, and in the absence of congestion, increases the bit rate of the previously congested traffic.

    • A reinforced medical catheter (10) includes an elongated tubular outer wall reinforced by an internal helical coil spring (36). Successive loops of the coil spring adjoining the distal end are longitudinally separated, and a working lumen extends longitudinally through the catheter. A longitudinally extending reinforcing cable is captured in the tubular outer wall against the exterior of the coil spring. A steering cable operably interconnected with the distal end of the coil spring extends proximally from the distal end of the coil spring freely through the working lumen to the proximal end of the catheter. The reinforcing cable and the steering cable may constitute a continuous elongated filament. Withdrawing the steering cable proximally through the working lumen causes the distal tip of the catheter to be deflected laterally.

    • Compressible lock washers for use in catheter connectors. Thus, during compression of the lock washer (60), the tube engagement flanges (64) engage the catheter tube (58) which runs through the tube receptacle (72), securing the catheter tube within the catheter connector (20) with which the lock washer is associated.

    • Catheters which utilize a flexible tube that has been modified at one end or both ends. Such modifications involve modifying a tube end to increase rigidity and strength (while maintaining some flexibility), or involve special placement of an intraluminal cord within the tube. One such catheter has a tube (20) with a cord (26) running therethrough wherein a portion of the tube's proximal end has been reinforced (30), preferably, in such a manner that the reinforced portion of the tube remains flexible. Similarly, another catheter includes a tube having an associated intraluminal cord, wherein the cord is affixed to the interior of the tube's proximal end. Another catheter has a tube and intraluminal cord with an enlarged end (e.g. a ball (28)) extending from the tube's distal end, and is modified by incorporating, within the tube's distal end, a spring (30). The thus placed spring (30) acts to increase the rigidity of the tip of the device, and interacts with the ball if need be to collect a portion of the tube which may break off from the remainder of the tube after placement.
