The extracting unit extracts a first block at a first position of a first frame image from plural frame images constituting video data. The retrieving unit retrieves, from a retrieval region within a second frame image from among the plural frame images, a second block between which the first block has a smallest residual value, the second and first frame images having a first time length therebetween. The detecting unit detects a first motion vector between the first and second blocks. The controlling unit controls the detecting unit so that detection of the first motion vector is regulated when the second block is retrieved at a third position apart from the second position of the second frame image corresponding to the first position by a first threshold or more.

摘要： A data transmission device transmits a data broadcast using a narrow unused broadcasting band in a digital broadcast, and to record the data broadcast, which has been received, on a receiving side so that the receiving side can play back the data broadcast after a data stream is totally recorded. The transmission device generates a first data stream, which is recorded on a recording medium on a receiving side, and a second data stream including audio and video data, which is transmitted as a broadcasting program. The transmission device multiplexes the first and the second data streams and then transmits the multiplexed data stream. The transmission of the multiplexed data stream is controlled so that a transmission rate for the multiplexed data stream does not exceed the maximum transmission rate, and so that a transmission rate for the first data stream becomes lower than that for the second data stream. A receiving device records the first data stream on the recording medium, and permits the first data stream to be played back for use after the transmission completes.

Then, the recording/reproduction apparatus displays a picture as a thumbnail picture for each of the similar-picture segments on a classification display unit 19. By viewing a tabular display of such thumbnail pictures, contents of the video signal recorded on the recording medium 8 can be grasped effectively and with a high degree of efficiency.

A data signal including program information generated from a program information generation section is added to modulate an audio information signal supplied from an audio signal supply section by an addition modulation section. In the addition modulation, the audio information signal is phase modulated at a delineating point of sound thereof such as chimes or musical sound with the data signal. Together with the audio information signal phase modulated with the data signal, the audio information signal prior to the phase modulation is transmitted as a reference signal to be used for demodulation.
