A recording and reproducing apparatus (100) which performs compression-coding on an image in which an image element is arranged on a background image, and records data corresponding to the compression-coded image on a recording medium, the recording and reproducing apparatus (100) including an image generating unit (111) which generates menu data indicating the image in which the image element is arranged on the background image such that at least a part of an outer boundary of the image element is consistent with a boundary of one of a macroblock and an orthogonal transform block used for the compression-coding, a compression-multiplexing unit (105) which compression-codes the menu data generated by the menu generating unit, and a record-processing unit (106) which records the menu data compression-coded by the compression-multiplexing unit (105) on the recording medium (10).

Also, the latter reconstructs the original contents based on the remaining contents recorded on the first recording medium by recovering the reconstruction information from the second recording medium and using the reconstruction information.

摘要： In transmission or recording of a digital signal by means of digital amplitude and phase modulation, particularly recording into and reproducing the same from the a magnetic recording medium, a digital amplitude/phase modulated signal to be demodulated is commonly affected by the non-linear amplitude characteristics and the effects of unwanted jitter and envelope variation. As the result, the error rate of decoded data will be increased. For compensation, the Viterbi decoding technique is employed with the use of a weighted distance value calculated by multiplying an Euclidean distance between the signal point of a reproduction signal and the datum point of each code by a positive weighting factor which is determined smaller when the code datum point is located further from the origin point of a coordinate system. Accordingly, the weighted distance of each reproduction signal point from its corresponding datum point can approximately be uniform thus ensuring less error decoding in general.

摘要： A conventional device adjusts the convergence angle of its imaging unit in a manner that the left-and-right face detection areas are at the same coordinates and thus forms a stereo image that will be placed on a display screen during display, but fails to place a subject at an intended stereoscopic position. A stereo image capturing device (1000) detects a face area from a right image, detects a disparity using the left-and-right face areas, and sets the imaging parameters (the subject distance, focal length, stereo base, and convergence angle) to adjust the detected disparity to a disparity enabling the subject to be placed at an intended placement position. This device forms a stereo image having an appropriate stereoscopic effect in which a target subject is placed at an intended stereoscopic position. The device uses only a limited target area for face detection and thus requires less calculation for face detection.

摘要： A digital signal magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus modulates a digital signal with a carrier and performs recording/reproducing of the modulated signal. The carrier frequency is made equal to the clock frequency multiplied by a factor (N/M), where N and M are integers. The carrier and clock are reproduced using only one phase locked loop. When the carrier-modulated signal is recorded/reproduced using a magnetic recording medium, the phase of the modulated signal is shifted relative to the phase of the carrier. Shifting the clock phase before using the clock for decoding the demodulated signal prevents a degradation of error rate. By periodically inserting a clock phase reference signal in the recording signal, accuracy of adjustment of clock phase is improved.
