    • The disclosure concerns the wire end section of a paper making machine. The wire belt is an endless loop and the pulp suspension is supplied by one or more head boxes. The head box has an upstream and a downstream flow guide wall defining a pulp outlet opening between them. The downstream guide wall has a convexly curved slide shoe which cooperates with the passing wire belt to define a web-forming zone. At the other side of the wire belt, upstream of the outlet opening, another convexly curved wire support surface is defined for leading the wire belt into the web-forming zone. Both of the convexly curved surfaces are displaceable transversely to the direction of pulp flow from the head box. The radius of curvature of the slide shoe is greater at the outlet opening and smaller away from the outlet opening. The radius of curvature of the cooperating supporting surface on the other side of the belt is smaller than the mean radius of curvature of the slide shoe. Where a plurality of head boxes are provided, drainage water from one head box is collected and is pumped to supply water for the other head box, and vice-versa.

    • The disclosure concerns a head box for use in a paper making machine, or the like. The open channel through the head box leading to the outlet opening has at least one and more usually a plurality of guide surfaces extending through the channel. The guide surfaces are supported between the side walls of the head box and are spaced from the top and bottom of the head box and, when a plurality of guide surfaces are provided, they are spaced vertically from each other. The guide surfaces are comprised of flexible foil-like material. The guide surfaces are anchored at pivots at their upstream ends and are supported intermediate their lengths toward the outlet openings by a respective tab projecting from each side edge thereof into a receiving slot in the respective side wall of the head box. A tension spring operates in opposition to the shifting of the tab and the guide surface under the influence of the flow through the head box. The guide surface is fastened to the headbox and adjustably tensioned in a direction opposite to the flow of the pulp.

    • A former for a paper machine: The paper machine includes a perforated forming cylinder and a suction device for drawing water inward through the perforations. An inner and an outer belt are wrapped around the forming cylinder. The outer belt meets the inner belt at the peripheral surface of the forming cylinder in a generally wedge-shaped inlet slot located at and upstream of the bottom of the forming cylinder. A pulp fiber suspension nozzle of a width that covers the axial length of the forming cylinder injects pulp into the inlet slot. A supporting device is provided at the inlet slot and includes a convexly curved surface, convexly curved around an axis generally parallel to the cylinder axis. The supporting device includes a concavely curved surface that follows the convexly curved surface downstream of the flow of pulp.     • Stock distribution means for delivering an aqueous slurry in a papermaking machine has a tapering passage which delivers stock to a nozzle by way of several rows of channels whose inlets are in communication with the passage. The passage, the entire channels and/or the inlets of the channels are configurated and dimensioned in such a way that the resistance which the inlets nearer to the intake end of the passage offer to the inflow of stock is more pronounced than the resistance of inlets which are more distant from such intake end. This insures uniformity or substantial uniformity of the volume of stock flow in each channel in spite of the fact that the channels of neighboring rows are at least partially inclined with respect to each other and that the inlets of channels in successive rows are located downstream of each other, as considered in the direction of stock flow in the passage.

    • A press arrangement of a paper or cardboard machine for the treatment of a fibrous pulp sheet in a press opening that is extended in the run direction of the fibrous pulp sheet. The press opening is defined by two press surfaces, at least one of which is constructed of a flexible press sleeve that is guided over at least one press shoe. The flexible press sleeve is further able to press against the opposing press surface with the aid of the press shoe due to the creation of a fluid cushion between the press shoe and the press sleeve. The press shoe is thus able to be tensioned such that a resulting main press force is exerted in a direction that runs substantially perpendicular to the fibrous pulp sheet being guided through the press opening. A lever is designed to load the press shoe with an positive or negative force that acts on the press shoe substantially perpendicular to the resulting main press force. The additional positive or negative forces transfer a tilting moment to the press shoe whereby the press shoe tilts around a respective tilting axis. The tilting axis extends substantially perpendicular to the run direction of the fibrous pulp sheet and in the transverse direction of the press arrangement. Thus, the additional forces can, substantially, independently influence the pressure profile in the press opening, set along the run direction of the fibrous pulp sheet.
