    • A security device may include a spool, locking mechanism, button, plug, and latch. The spool is configured to either wind or unwind a cable for wrapping around an object. The locking mechanism is configured to partially lock the spool. The button may be used to move the locking mechanism between locked and unlocked positions. The button may be blocked by inserting a plug into a housing of the device such that the button cannot be activated to unlock the spool. The plug may be secured to the housing through the latch that prevents the unauthorized removal of the plug. For an enhanced locking feature, the latch and the plug may be configured to require at least two forces to move the latch and free the plug. The spool, locking mechanism, and button may be stacked along a common axis to provide a more compacted design.

    • A system and device for detecting and/or deactivating a security tag when passing through an electronic article surveillance (EAS) portal. The portal may be oriented by the arrangement of one or more antennas to generate an electromagnetic field at or within the portal to detect and/or deactivate the security tag. The electromagnetic field may detect and/or deactivate a security tag located at any orientation on merchandise as the security tag passes through the portal. The portal may be mounted on a counter at a point-of-sale station in which merchandise having security tags attached thereto are passed through the portal. The portal may also be mounted to a floor in which a shopping cart having merchandise is passed through the portal so that security tags attached to the merchandise in the cart are detected and/or deactivated.

    • A system is disclosed for detecting the presence of an article. The system includes a transmitter for radiating a first electromagnetic signal at a predetermined primary frequency and a resonant tag secured to the article. The resonant tag generates a second electromagnetic signal in response to receiving the first electromagnetic signal. The second electromagnetic signal has components at the primary frequency and at a predetermined secondary frequency different from the primary frequency. The system also includes a receiver for receiving the second electromagnetic signal and a computer connected to an output of the receiver. The computer processes the received second electromagnetic signal and generates an output signal when the secondary frequency is detected in the second electromagnetic signal.
