    • A control apparatus of a real time counter for a video cassette recorder. This apparatus comprises a CLOG detection section having an envelope detector, a comparator, and a low-pass filter for detecting a CLOG signal to judge whether a signal exists on the videotape; an ATF detection section having an ATF detector, an analog-to-digital converter, a band comparator, a shift register, and a state detector for detecting an automatic track following signal, an AND gate for performing a logical product between the CLOG signal and the automatic track following signal and an REC instruction; and a counting section having a switch which is for controlling a real time counter using the output, or a control signal of the AND gate. This apparatus accomplishes the accurate control of a counting by using an automatic track following signal as well as the CLOG signal.

    • In a rotation synchronous control system comprising a host controller and a plurality of units connected to the host controller, each of the plurality of units having a rotation device, the system having a spindle sync function for the rotation devices to maintain a spindle sync between them, each of the units is provided with a spindle sync/reference signal source and a phase adjuster. The controller monitors the spindle sync between the units and issues a phase correction instruction to each of the units. Receiving the instruction, the phase adjuster in each unit adjusts the phase of the sync signal and uses the sync signal thus corrected to provide a spindle sync control.

    • Disclosed is a circuit for detecting an unrecorded portion of a recording medium, which has a window counting portion (10) for receiving an input signal, for recognizing if the input signal comes from an unrecorded portion of the recording medium and for counting a predetermined time to generate a window signal. The circuit also has a sync signal generator (20) which is enabled by the window signal, in which, if the number of pulses of the input signal equals or exceeds a predetermined number, the generator recognizes that the current input signal comes from a data region of the recording medium and therefore generates a sync signal. If the number of pulses of the input signal is less than the predetermined number of pulses, the generator recognizes that the current input signal is due to noise from an unrecorded region of the recording medium, and therefore does not generate the sync signal. The unrecorded portion is accurately detected since no sync signals are generated due to noise included in the unrecorded portion of the recording medium.
