    • In coin discrimination apparatus, a coin under test rolls past first and second inductive sensors (C1, C2) which produce first and second coin signals (x.sub.1, x.sub.2) in dependence upon the coin under test. The coin signals are compared with data defining first and second stored windows (W.sub.1, W.sub.2) to determine acceptability of the coin. In accordance with the invention the data for the first and second windows (W.sub.1, W.sub.2) are stored respectively for providing both a first and a second window width (W.sub.11, W.sub.12 ; W.sub.21, W.sub.22), wherein the first window width corresponds to the width of a distribution of coin signals associated with acceptable coins of a particular denomination, and the second window width corresponds to the width of said distribution but excludes therefrom a range of values corresponding to fraudulent coins, and a coin under test is deemed to be acceptable upon the coin signals falling either within a first or a second acceptance condition wherein, for the first acceptance condition, the value of the first coin signal fails within the first window width of the first window (W.sub.11), and the value of the second coin signal falls within the second window width of the second window (W22), and for the second acceptance condition the value of the first coin signal falls within the second window width of the first window (W.sub.12), and the value of the second coin signal falls within the first window width of the second window (W.sub.21).

    • A control system for coin-operated automatic machines is accommodated within a frame box of a rectangular prismatic and vertically elongated shape, such that in the upper part thereof there is established an electronic coin selector. Immediately below the selector is arranged a classifier, which is aided by a display and a set of buttons, whilst in the lower area of the frame box, below the classifier, there are established a series of storage tubes corresponding to respective return mechanisms. A module for temporary storage of coins, and at least one slot in one of the side walls of the frame box are provided to allow optional coupling of an external return device which, through a guide, supplies the coins to a return duct.

    • In a metal body discriminating apparatus of a simple structure and a high detecting accuracy for discriminating a material, a shape, a size, or the like of a metal body by the magnetical principle, an oscillator which performs the oscillating operation by the resonant operation together with the coil wound like a ring is provided to thereby generate magnetic lines of force in the coil. Changes in frequency and amplitude of an oscillation signal in response to changes in impedance and inductance of the coil by the operation of the eddy current which is generated in the metal body by the magnetic lines of force by relatively moving the metal body into the hollow space of the coil are detected as feature parameters of the metal body. Two or more coils constructing a similar oscillator are arranged at regular intervals and a size of metal body is discriminated from each of the oscillation signals having a phase difference which are obtained when the metal body passes in the coils with a time deviation.

    • Apparatus for more accurately distinguishing between metal objects including coins based on the affect of the object or coin on the electrical characteristics of a pair of tank circuits when the tank circuits are subjected to a charging pulse which ends at a time when the object or coin is in the field thereof. The tank circuits can be connected into different configurations with the fields of their respective coils positioned to be subjected to the object or coin to be distinguished. The tank circuits can have similar or different characteristics and the coils of the tank circuits can be arranged in an aiding or in an opposing relationship. The present apparatus may also include apparatus to provide automatic tuning and self adjustment using a comparison between a portion of a signal produced by ringing one or more tank circuits and a fixed reference voltage level.
