    • AE-lock photography with accurate exposure control is made possible by a camera exposure control device which memorizes outputs of a T.T.L. light measuring device at a desired time prior to a camera release operation and at a time immediately before the commencement of stopping-down operation of a diaphragm, respectively. The exposure control device arrests the diaphragm for determination of the diaphragm aperture when the light measuring device, during stopping-down of the diaphragm, represents a given relationship with the sum of, on one hand, the difference between the stored outputs and on the other hand a signal commensurate with a preselected shutter speed, and thereafter determines a shutter speed in accordance with the sum of, on one hand, the difference between the stored outputs and, on the other hand, the output of the light measuring device commensurate with the intensity of scene light measured through the determined diaphragm aperture. Information of a set film sensitivity is counted in the outputs of the light measuring device. A light measuring device which is different in type from the T.T.L. light measuring device may be employed for generation of an output which is stored in place of the output of the T.T.L. light measuring device generated at a desired time prior to a camera release operation.

    • In a photographic camera having programmed automatic exposure control, a light measuring output is produced by measuring scene light and an exposure value signal is generated in response to the light measuring output. A time value and aperture value signal are automatically varied as a function of the changes in the exposure value signal, which function is adapted to be altered in a predetermined manner by the change in the exposure value signal. The aperture size is determined in response to the size in the aperture value signal and the exposure time is determined in accordance with the time value signal.

    • In a photographic camera capable of programmed automatic exposure control, circuitry is provided for also enabling exposure time-preferred automatic diaphragm control and diaphragm-preferred automatic exposure time control. The diaphragm is settable to an initial aperture size, which may be the fully opened aperture, and is capable of being changed to different aperture sizes. A first signal is generated in accordance with the logarithm of the light intensity measured through the diaphragm. A second signal is generated in accordance with a manual exposure time setting circuit. A third signal intermediate the first and second signals is generated with a predetermined ratio between the difference of the first and third signals with respect to the difference between the third and second signals. The diaphragm is set by determining the difference from the initial aperture size to the aperture size to be set in accordance with either the difference between the first and third signals or the difference between the third and second signals with the diaphragm at its initial aperture size. The exposure time is controlled commensurate with the diaphragm aperture set by the diaphragm aperture setting mechanism. An indicator indicates the F-number or exposure time, respectively, in accordance with the mode of operation.

The exposure indicating device obtains an output voltage from an output circuit for computing exposure control voltages in response to step members representing steps of the diaphragm for stopping-down the diaphragm from its fully opened condition to a preselected value so that the output represents the shutter speed to be controlled with the preselected diaphragm aperture.

    • An exposure control for still cameras wherein a first portion of a diaphragm shutter is movable from cocked position to one of several second positions for effecting admission of scene light to an unexposed film frame, and a second portion of the shutter is movable from a first to a second position subsequent to movement of first shutter portion from the cocked position to terminate the exposure. The aperture size and the exposure time can be varied within a first range of light intensities which is monitored by a first photoresistor. The exposure time, at a selected aperture size, can be varied within a second range of light intensities which is monitored by a second photoresistor. The second range is contiguous to and merges gradually into the first range. The characteristic of the second photoresistor within the second range of light intensities can be changed by a wedge-like filter which is mounted in front of the second photoresistor and whose position can be changed by a pivotable or rotary selector of f/stops. The selector, or the first portion of the shutter, can actuate a switchover device which connects the first photoresistor in parallel with a first fixed resistor when the selector selects a first f/stop, and which connects the first photoresistor in parallel with a second resistor when the selector selects a different f/stop. The characteristic of the second photoresistor within the second range of light intensities can be varied by the filter in such a way that a curve which is indicative of variations of resistance of the second photoresistor within the second range of light intensities in a first position of the selector is substantially parallel to a curve which is indicative of variations of resistance of the second photoresistor within the second range of light intensities in a different position of the selector.

    • An exposure control system is provided with means through which it is automatically actuated to change the exposure controlling characteristics thereof in response to the coupling of a source of artificial illumination therewith. The exposure control system is operable in both an ambient and flash mode of operation wherein the exposure control system anticipates a rather large shutter blade overshoot subsequent to the command signal to close the shutter blades during the ambient mode of operation which anticipation is automatically compensated for during the flash mode of operation to provide an optimum flash mode exposure interval prior to receipt of the command signal to close the shutter blade elements.
