    • A fuel gas injector for a gas turbine engine employs a plurality of closely spaced parallel venturi tubes disposed in a pair of spaced-apart header plates. The venturi tubes are brazed to the header plates and the perimeters of the header plates are sealed to form a plenum into which pressurized gaseous fuel is supplied. Orifices lead from the plenum to throats of the venturi tubes thereby injecting the gaseous fuel at right angles into the high-velocity air stream existing at the the throats of the venturi tubes. High shear is imposed on the injected fuel for providing complete mixing with the air. The high air velocity in the throats of the venturi tubes avoids flashback and flameholding. The combined flow from the plurality of venturi tubes mixes downstream thereof to provide a uniform velocity and fuel-air mixture across the flow field. This flow field is suitable for use in a catalyst bed which may be disposed downstream of the venturi tubes.

    • The heater includes a jacket unit connectable to the cooling system of an internal combustion engine, the jacket unit forming a central cavity in which a catalytic burner unit is suspended by means of a bolt that extends upwardly through an upper opening in the jacket unit. Overlying the jacket unit is a perforated dome-shaped cap having a hole through which the bolt extends so that a nut applied to the upper end of the bolt clamps the perforated cap against the upper end of the jacket unit, at the same time suspending the burner unit within the jacket unit's cavity. Within the cavity is a fixedly positioned ring through which the bolt extends, the bolt having a collar that abutts the underside of the ring when the nut is fully tightened. The catalytic burner unit also includes a feed tube extending downwardly therefrom. A second perforated dome-shaped cap underlies the jacket unit having a hole through which the feed tube extends. A sleeve of catalytic material is included in the burner unit. In one instance a glow plug is employed to initially ignite the fuel supplied through the feed tube and in a second instance a heating wire is wrapped around the sleeve of catalytic material to initiate the burning action. At the upper end of the feed tube is a wick in one embodiment and a propane nozzle in a second embodiment. Provision is made for attaching the heater to a specially designed portable tank.

    • A method of heat treatment of foodstuff in which a stream of oxygen-containing gas and fuel is passed over one or more catalysts to raise the temperature of the gas stream and the resulting hot, gas stream is contacted with foodstuff in which a proportion of the total fuel may be injected initially and a further proportion or proportions of fuel is subsequently injected preceding passage of the gas and fuel stream over a catalyst and the gas and fuel stream may be passed over catalysts in parallel or in series or so that a portion is continually divided off from the main stream flowing to a main catalyst and passed over a subsidiary catalyst and returned to a point in the mainstream upstream of where it was divided off.
