    • In the hydraulic breaker according to the present invention, oil pressure at a fixed value always flows in the circuit at a low pressure side whenever the piston is raised or lowered, to prevent the need for an accumulator in the circuit at the low pressure side. At the same time, a high pressure oil is required during the raising and lowering of the piston, bringing about less of a change in the surge pressure, attributing to the fact that there is no need for an accumulator in the circuit at the high pressure side. Moreover, the hydraulic breaker of the present invention is advantageous by providing an increased striking force because the high pressure oil is used, in addition to the reaction force of the compressed nitrogen gas, when the piston is lowered to strike the chisel.

    • A hydraulic striking device (1) includes a percussion piston (3) which reciprocates in an operating cylinder (2) and strikes a bit (4). The reciprocation is governed by a control valve (10) which is connected to the operating cylinder by a control conduit (27). A holding valve (30) in the control conduit has three connections (27a, 27b, 31): one with the control valve, one with the operating cylinder, and one with the return conduit (17). The connections (27a, 31) which are connected with the operating cylinder and with the control conduit are axially aligned and form the outlets of a hollow cavity (53) in which a preferably spherical movable valve body (54) is disposed, the cross-sectional area of the valve body being smaller than that of the cavity. The connection (27b) with the control valve opens radially into the cavity. If the valve body rests against the valve seat (55) which faces the return conduit, the axis of the connection (27b) passes through that half of the valve body which faces this valve seat. When the striking device operates, energy that is reflected from the bit to the percussion piston can be utilized for the following stroke and thus the total performance of the striking device is increased.

    • A pneumatically-actuated multi-needle type chisel tool is provided having a hollow cylinder body, a piston ram fitted for axially reciprocal movement in a rearward portion of the cylinder body, an anvil fitted for axially reciprocal movement in an intermediate portion of the cylinder body, a needle holder fitted for axially reciprocal movement in a forward portion of the cylinder body and a number of needle chisels journaled for axially reciprocal movement in the needle holder. A first air passage is provided with an opening into the rearward portion of the cylinder body to introduce compressed air thereinto for moving the piston ram to and fro. A second air passage is provided with an opening into the forward portion of the cylinder body to introduce compressed air thereinto for moving the needle holder rearwardly. A cylinder cap is axially adjustably mounted to the forward portion of the cylinder body with the rear end face of the cap facing opposite to the outer peripheral forwardly facing surface of the needle holder such that the air pressure in the space of the cylinder body interior enclosed by the anvil and the needle holder is pressurized upon the anvil being rapidly moved forward by the impact from the piston ram, causing the pressurized air force to move the needle holder forwardly. Similarly, the air introduced into the forward portion of the cylinder body in front of the outer peripheral forwardly facing surface of the needle holder is compressed during the forward movement of the needle holder.

    • A hydraulically-operated road breaker comprises a casing with a tool mounting and housing an oscillatory piston/striker and cylinder arrangement. A sequence valve mounted in the casing controls pressurization and exhausting of the piston to produce power and return strokes of the piston. Pilot port means positioned in the cylinder of the device are uncovered, at the end of each return stroke of the piston, to allow a valve-actuating flow of hydraulic fluid through the port means to change over the sequence valve and thereby cause stroke reversal of the piston. Manually-operable stroke selection means provide for adjustment of the position of the piston in the cylinder at which the valve-actuating flow occurs, whereby to vary the piston stroke.
