    • An F-kV and an F-mA output from tube-voltage adjuster and tube-current adjuster, respectively, are supplied to exposure-rate controller. Controller compares an input entrance exposure rate determined by the F-kV and the F-mA with a preset exposure rate set in view of a patient's safety. When the former is equal to or less than the latter, controller supplies the input F-kV and F-mA to X-ray tube. When the former exceeds the latter, controller supplies an F-kV and an F-mA corresponding to the preset exposure rate to X-ray tube and a limit signal to auto-iris controller. X-rays output from X-ray tube are transmitted through patient to form an X-ray image. The X-ray image is converted into an optical image by image intensifier tube. After the light quantity of the optical image is reduced by auto-iris, the optical image is picked up by TV camera. TV camera outputs an image signal to TV monitor and brightness detector. Brightness detector detects the brightness of an image displayed on TV monitor, and outputs it to auto-iris controller. In the normal mode wherein no limit signal is supplied, auto-iris controller closes auto-iris based on the operation method and the input size of the field of view of the image intensifier tube. When a limit signal is input, auto-iris controller opens auto-iris such that an output from brightness detector becomes a predetermined value.

    • The temperature of the anode disc of a rotary-anode X-ray tube is continuously determined by means of the method apparatus in accordance with the invention. When the temperature exceeds a first limit value, the power of the X-ray tube is reduced to a fraction (for example, 80%) of the otherwise permissible power. When a second limit value of the anode disc temperature is exceeded, exposures are completely inhibited. In the case of exposures which are performed in rapid succession with a comparatively low power, it may occur that the anode disc temperature does not reach the second limit value, but that the mean value of the applied electric power is so high that the bearing of the rotary anode, and possibly also the joint between the anode shaft and the rotor, is overloaded. Overloading is prevented by generating a bearing-temperature signal indicative of the rotary anode bearing temperature and comparing it with a third limit value.

    • Apparatus to indicate the temperature of an X-ray tube target includes an analog storage circuit to simulate the heat energy stored. Input signals representing the current and the voltage of the electron beam in the tube are multiplied to give a signal representing the instantaneous power input. The power signal is integrated in the storage circuit to give a temperature signal representing the total heat input. The temperature signal is dissipated by a cooling curve circuit representing the heat loss with time. An indicator reads the temperature signal.Input voltage and current signals are processed to refer them to ground before multiplication. The current signal is corrected to set its zero value. The voltage signal derived from a transformer primary is corrected for transformer regulation. To eliminate spurious inputs the power signal is gated to the storage circuit only when a measured current is flowing. Multiple storage circuits indicating a number of tubes remember the temperature of their own targets while the power signal and the temperature indicator are being used with another storage circuit.
