摘要： Disclosed herein is a method of manufacturing inorganic hollow yarns, such as cermets, oxide-non oxide composites, poorly sinterable non-oxides, and the like, at low costs. The method includes preparing a composition comprising a self-propagating high temperature reactant, a polymer and a dispersant, wet-spinning the composition through a spinneret to form wet-spun yarns, washing and drying the wet-spun yarns to form polymer-self propagating high temperature reactant hollow yarns, and heat-treating the polymer-self propagating high temperature reactant hollow yarns to remove a polymeric component from the polymer-self propagating high temperature reactant hollow yarns while inducing self-propagating high temperature reaction of the self-propagating high temperature reactant to form inorganic hollow yarns. The composition comprises 45˜60 wt % of the self-propagating high temperature reactant, 6˜17 wt % of the polymer, 0.1˜4 wt % of the dispersant, and the balance of an organic solvent.

摘要： One aspect relates to a method for producing an alloy characterized by grinding tantalum to form a tantalum powder and grinding tungsten to form a tungsten powder; mixing the tantalum powder and the tungsten powder to form a blended powder. The weight fraction of tungsten powder in the blended powder is larger than in the desired alloy. A blended body is produced from the blended powder by a powder metallurgical route. A pre-alloy is produced by a first melting of the blended body and at least a fraction of at least one further metal by a melt metallurgical route. The alloy is produced by a second melting of the pre-alloy and the remaining fraction of at least one metal by a melt metallurgical route.

The shell layer 3 is composed of a second hard sintered body or second ceramics having a different composition from the first hard sintered body. The ratio of the residual free carbon amount Cin in the core material 2 to the residual free carbon amount Cout in the shell layer 3, Cin/Cout, is 0.5 to 2. This prevents shrinkage during the time of sintering and also prevents the strength of the composite construction from lowering due to poor sintering.

摘要： A method of manufacturing an article by diffusion bonding at least two metal components (30,36) comprises assembling the metal components (30,36) into a stack relative to each other so that the surfaces (34,40) are in mating contact. The edges of the metal components (30,36) are sealed together, except for an aperture (49) where a pipe (50) is to be connected. A connector (51) has a first end (52) and a second end (53). The first end (52) has a smaller diameter than the second end (53) and a bore (54) extends through the connector (51) from the first end (52) to the second end (53). The second end (53) of the connector (51) is joined (57) to the stack. The pipe (50) is joined (58) to the first end (52) of the connector (51). The interior of the sealed assembly is evacuated via the pipe (50) and the pipe is sealed. Heat and pressure are applied to diffusion bond the metal components (30,36) together to form an integral structure. The connector (51) reduces the possibility of failure of the pipe (50) and/or seal (57) during diffusion bonding.

摘要： The structural assemblies are selectively reinforced with metal matrix composite in the regions susceptible to mechanical failure. More specifically, a channel is machined in a structural member in an area of relatively high stress. A reinforcing member is inserted into the channel. A metal powder is deposited on and around the reinforcing member. The metal powder is irradiated by a high energy source to thereby encase the reinforcing member in a metal matrix and to consolidate the metal matrix to the interior surface of the channel. The resultant assembly is lightweight and has improved strength and stiffness at room and elevated temperatures.
