    • A motorized head for applying fiber composite material to an application surface includes a drive roll and a backup roll for feeding fiber composite material toward the application surface, a compaction roll for pressing fiber composite material onto the application surface, and a restart pinch roll assembly located between the drive roll and the compaction roll for driving fiber composite material received from the drive roll to the compaction roll. The drive roll nip between the drive roll and the backup roll forms a drive zone that grips and drives the composite material, a clamp zone that prevents movement of the composite material after it has been cut, and a free zone that allows composite material to be freely pulled through the head. Two cutters mounted on the drive roll mesh with a single anvil on the backup roll to cut the composite material to the desired length.

    • A sealing unit (8) for applying a plastic foil (7) to a planar substrate material (1) by means of heat and pressure using a sealing plate (11) with a heated active surface and a back plate (9) which is movable relative thereto. In accordance with the invention, sealed material from the sealing unit is provided to a die cutting unit (16) and preferably the sealing unit (8) is linked to the die cutting unit (16). The die cutting unit is provided with at least one die cutting knife (15) and a counter plate (21) for subsequently making die cuts (6) at selected locations in the planar substrate material (1) in the region of the applied plastic film (7). The sealing plate (11) of the sealing unit (8) has at least one set of raised (14) and depressed (13) regions on its active surface facing the back plate (9) and the location of the depressed regions (13) in the sealing plate (11) corresponds to the location of the die cutting knife (15), so that a cut (6) is made at the selected positions in the substrate material (1) where, because of the depressed regions (13) of the sealing plate (11), there is reduced and insignificant heating of the substrate material (1) and its laminations.

    • The invention relates to a method for applying flat material web sections (28) to a first flat web of material (6) which is displaced in the direction of the machine having a first web speed during the production of hygiene articles or medical articles. The dimensions of the flat material web sections (28), in the direction of the machine, are smaller than the measurements of the articles which are to be produced. The flat material web sections (28) of an endless web (8) are separated in the cut-and-place method and are arranged on the first flat material web (6). The endless web (8) is fed at a second web speed to a second cutting station in the direction of a cutting roller (18). According to the inventive method, a front section (26) of the endless web (8) is applied against a surface section (24) of an anvil roller (22) which co-operates with the cutting roller (18), the surface section being curved less than the periphery (34) of the anvil roller (22). The front section (26) is cut in the endless web (8) in order to form the flat material web section (28) and each cut flat material web sections (28) is accelerated in a slip-free manner by the anvil roller (22).
