摘要： A facsimile machine is provided that can shorten a time period required for a pre-transmission procedure through simple manipulation, thus improving the transmission efficiency. Moreover, a facsimile communications method using the facsimile machine is provided. When initial facsimile transmission is performed to an opposite party of which a number is registered corresponding to at least one of abbreviated dialing and one-touch dialing, a partial step of a pre-communication procedure is stored in correspondence with the registered number. In the second or later communications to the registered number, a stored content is read out. Then, by allocating the stored content to said partial step, a required communication time period is shortened. The facsimile machine has a memory that stores number information on abbreviated dialing and/or one-touch dialing and required information corresponding to the number information.

Forwarded telephone calls and audio formatted versions of the fax transmissions and electronic messages are then forwarded directly to a designated forwarding number. If the forwarding party answers at the forwarding number, she will receive forwarded calls, and the audio formatted versions of fax transmissions and electronic messages will be played to her over her telephone. If the forwarding party does not answer the forwarded call, she subsequently may retrieve saved telephone calls, saved telephone messages and saved audio versions of fax transmissions and electronic messages from the central forwarding repository. The forwarding party may retrieve saved messages as a retrieving party from the central forwarding repository after entry of a personal identification number to authenticate the forwarding (retrieving) party's permission to retrieve saved calls and messages.

When the subaddress signal is directly input in the facsimile transmission, with one of the symbols # and ## input and the subaddress signal happens to coincide with the definition of the signal specified in the ITU-T Recommendation T. 33, an operator checks to see whether the transmission of the signal complied with the signal format of the ITU-T Recommendation T. 33 is selected. The facsimile transmission is thus performed as the operator intends.
