    • Wireless data services such as wireless email are becoming common, and in particular, “always-on” systems, where new email is automatically forwarded by the service provider to the wireless device. The problem is that there is no effective mechanism for implementing “always-on” systems when the user is moving around a network, or from one network to another. The invention addresses this problem by generating a session key at the service provider's system for a given data session, and returning this session key to the mobile device. Each time the mobile device communicates with the service provider, it enters this session key into a field that will simply pass through the communication network to the service provider. This allows the service provider to manage the data session, preparing proper accounting records and directing the deletion of stale data sessions on network resources.

    • A method for establishing a Diameter session for packet flow based charging with multiple ways for establishing the Diameter session between a TPF and a CRF. The Diameter session can be established for each bearer of each subscriber, which means that for GPRS the Diameter session is established for each PDP Context State Model of each subscriber. The Diameter session can also be established for the bearers with a same APN of each subscriber. The Diameter session can further be established for all the bearers of each subscriber. The invention improves the mechanism for establishing Diameter sessions and makes the implementation of the charging flow more integrated. Moreover, the multiple ways for establishing Diameter sessions between the TPF and the CRF provided in the present invention can be flexibly selected according to the practical charging applications.

    • A server and related method embodiments for determining usage on a wireless network are described. The server includes a connection detector, a connection classifier connected with the connection detector, and a usage tracker connected with the connection classifier. The connection detector detects a connection from a mobile station. The connection classifier determines the type of the detected connection. The usage tracker determines usage for each detected connection based on the connection type. A connecting mobile station for accessing the server includes a session controller for controlling a session with the server, a connection controller for controlling a connection related to the session, and an application assigner for controlling assignment of an application executed by the client to a particular connection.
