摘要： A wireless communication device communicating with a serving base station in a wireless communication environment may have one or more applications running. When seeking to handover from the serving base station to a target base station, the wireless communication device adjusts the configurations of the applications based on the new communication link properties. Likewise, when an application is loaded that prefers communication link properties that exceeds a current communication link's capabilities, the wireless communication device may seek out and hand over to other communication links. By cooperatively coordinating the functionality of installed applications with communication link properties, the wireless communication device can maintain high levels of device and application functionality.

A customer has the option to pay different fees for different tiers of service relating to voice quality, bandwidth access, and different tiers of service relating to communications security. Higher tiers may guarantee a specific vocoder or bit rate is used, or guarantee a specific encryption protocol is use to ensure secure communications. Different tiers may be associated with customers' records for billing purposes. The network may afford high end devices higher voice quality and/or security via a lookup table indicating what level of service is associated with a given device. Calling or receiving devices may negotiate with each other to change to a more robust vocoder or bit rate to ensure a higher quality and/or security. Furthermore, the user may opt to change the quality and/or security level before or during a call.

摘要： A method and service-related nodes for providing a deferred distance notification for at least two user devices. A Location-based gateway receives a request for a deferred distance notification for user devices, and sends a request to a Location enabler for the location of the user devices. The gateway receives location data from the Location enabler, and monitors the fulfillment of user device distance-related event criteria. When a user device distance-related event criterion is fulfilled, the gateway triggers the deferred distance notification, and sends the notification of the user device distance event to an application node. The application node sends a location request after which the Application node receives the notification. Distance notification can thus be provided to a user requesting a location-deferred service, such that the location of entire groups of users can be revealed to the requesting party.

Higher service tiers may guarantee that a specific vocoder or bit rate is used. Different tiers may be associated with customers' records (208) for billing purposes. The network (200) may also afford high end cellular phones higher voice quality by comparing a given high end phone to a look up table (FIG. 6) which indicates what level of service is associated with the given phone. A calling mobile station (312) or a receiving mobile station (302) may case the other mobile station to change to a more robust vocoder (410) or bit rate (S508) to ensure a higher quality phone call. Furthermore, the user may also opt to change the quality level before or during a call.
