    • A transmitter comprises resource mapping circuitry configured to map symbols from multiple control channels to transmission symbols in a base station of a wireless system. The resource mapping circuitry comprises a table-based mapper configured to receive the control channel symbols and to map those symbols to the transmission symbols utilizing at least a selected one of a plurality of tables providing respective distinct mappings between the control channel symbols and the transmission symbols. For example, each of the transmission symbols may comprise a plurality of resource groups and the tables may specify distinct mappings of the control channels symbols to resource groups for different sets of possible base station parameter values. In one embodiment, the control channels comprise a physical control format indicator channel (PCFICH), a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH), and a physical hybrid ARQ indicator channel (PHICH) of an LTE cellular system.

    • In a mobile communication method according to the present invention, a mobile station (UE) receives downlink data transmitted from a radio base station by using a downlink radio resource assigned to the mobile station by predetermined scheduling information, in a predetermined cycle. The method includes the steps: (A) notifying, to the mobile station (UE), the predetermined cycle and information on the downlink radio resource; (B) notifying, to the mobile station (UE), the predetermined scheduling information; and (C) transmitting downlink data in the predetermined cycle by using the downlink radio resource assigned by the predetermined scheduling information, the transmission starting at a certain point determined on the basis of the received predetermined scheduling information. In the step (C), the predetermined scheduling information is discarded, when the information on the downlink radio resource and information notified by the predetermined scheduling information are inconsistent with each other.

    • In order to provide efficient relaying of multicast data in a wireless network, the wireless network comprises a base station and a relay node. The relay node is configured for transmissions on the basis of a radio frame including one or more subframes for unicast transmission and one or more subframes for multicast transmission. In a multicast-only operating mode of the relay node, the base station transmits multicast data to the relay node in one or more subframes which are selectable from the one or more subframes for unicast transmission and the one or more subframes for multicast transmission. The relay node receives the multicast data as transmitted by the base station and transmits the received multicast data in one or more of the subframes for multicast transmission.

    • An opportunistic modem (OM) system receives user data at an input port and transmits a modem output signal at an output port. In one aspect the data is initially transmitted over a first carrier in the modem output signal having a first frequency and bandwidth. Subsequently a second carrier having a second frequency and bandwidth is established, initially used to transmit pilot data, and then the user data is divided between the first and second carriers in the modem output signal. In another aspect the data is initially transmitted over a first and a second carrier in the modem output signal having respective first and second frequencies and bandwidths. Subsequently the second carrier is used to transmit pilot data for a period time. After the period of time the second carrier is de-established. In another aspect establishment and de-establishment of carriers is performed in response to detected interference.
