    • A base-bar type electrical connector, comprised of a base, an electrical contact assembly, a ribbon cable fastener and a stress eliminator. The electrical contact assembly is comprised of a plurality of conductors fastened in the base at the bottom with forked terminals projecting over the top surface of the base so that a ribbon cable can be placed thereon and squeezed by the ribbon cable fastener to force the forked terminals to pierce through the ribbon cable permitting the conductors in the ribbon cable to electrically retained at the fork of the forked terminals. The stress eliminator has two hook portions respectively hooked up with the base at two opposite ends so as to firmly secure the ribbon cable fastener to the base against any possible stress. The base has a dovetail groove at the bottom conveniently for mounting on a bus-bar main track through dovetail joint to electrically connect the ribbon cable to a bus-bar.

    • An electrical connector (10) for terminating a multi-conductor cable (100) has a housing (12) including a cable terminating face (18), an opposed mating face (16) and opposed end walls (24,26) having latch means (58,60) thereon. The cable terminating face (18) has major edges and minor edges, with the minor edges contiguous with the end walls (24,26). The major edges extend laterally beyond the profile of the mating face (16). The cable terminating face (18) has a rib (44,46) extending along the major edges, upstanding from the cable terminating face (18). A plurality of contacts (30) are secured in the housing (12) and have respective insulation displacement plates (34) extending from the cable terminating face (18). A terminating cover (14) defines an inner surface (80) and major side edges and has latch arms (86, 88) at opposite ends thereof adapted to engage the latch means (58,60) on the connector housing (12) to retain the terminating cover (14) on the housing (12). The terminating cover (14) has an off-set surface (94,96) recessed from the inner surface (80) along the major side edges that cooperates with the rib (44,46) to provide a space through which a ribbon cable (100) terminated to the connector (10) passes and to engage the cable (100) to provide strain relief thereto.

    • A connector for a multi-conductor circuit is disclosed which includes a base having a longitudinal cavity defining a plurality of seats whose spacing is equal to the distance between the centers of the conductors of a multi-conductor circuit. Pairs of springs, one pair for each seat, are connected to prongs emerging from the base, at least one spring of each pair being resiliently displaceable toward the other spring. A cover insertable into the cavity of the base includes a central longitudinal slot bounded by two resilient ledges through which a multi-conductor circuit is introduced. The ledges of the cover approach each other on insertion of the cover into the base and clamp the sheath of the multi-conductor circuit, at least one of the ledges having an extension for displacing one spring of each pair toward the opposing spring.

    • Disclosed is a connector device for retentively connecting a ribbon cable to a mating, connector. In one embodiment, the connector device defines a slot that mates with a hardware device of a computer. The connector device includes an internal retaining mechanism located between first and second members. The internal retaining mechanism operates in a first position in which the internal retaining mechanism engages the mating connector of the hardware device when the mating connector is positioned within the slot to thereby inhibit the mating connector from moving out of the slot. The internal retaining mechanism also operates in a second position in which the internal retaining mechanism is disengaged from the mating connector to allow the mating connector to move out of the slot.

    • A strain relief device for coupling of a cable connector to a terminal of an electrical device. The strain relief device includes an elongated base member having a flat surface extending between first and second end portions. A fastener is fixedly connected to the flat surface at the first end portion, for releasably fastening the base to an external surface of a housing to the electrical device. A clamping device extends perpendicularly from the base at the second end portion. The clamping device defines an adjustable slot configured to receive the cable connector. Moreover, the slot is moveable to several elevations with respect to the base. When the base is fastened to the external surface of the electrical device, the slot can be moved to align a cable connector received therein with a terminal of the electrical device.

    • A circuit board connector (10), such as for a flex circuit (20), which provides a solid and reliable contact termination between a flex circuit (20) and a connector. The flex circuit connector (10) includes multiple contact points (24, 26) for contacting each lead or trace on the flex circuit (20). The multiple contact points (24, 26) are provided along a common member (28) which also includes a strain relief mechanism (30) in between the multiple contact points (24, 26). The strain relief mechanism (30) may be provided in the form of a V-shaped bend in the material of the common member (28) connecting the multiple contact points (24, 26) together. The contact points (24, 26) used to join the flex circuit (20) and the connector (10) may be achieved using any combination of staple-like contact points or solder contact points. The addition of the strain relief mechanism (30) in between the contact points (24, 26) greatly enhances the termination between the flex circuit (20) and the connector (10). In this way, the termination is able to withstand a larger applied force without destroying the flex circuit/connector termination. Additionally, the use of solder contact points in conjunction with the strain relief mechanism (30) provides additional strength to the termination since the flex circuit material is not punctured using the staple-like contact points.
