    • A multi-purpose alarm system is designed to produce an alarm signal in response to the movement of an object relative to a fixed position, such as occurs when doors, gates or windows are opened, or when vehicles are moved. The system operates with an emitter providing a beam of light (such as a laser beam of light) mounted in a fixed location. A mirror or retroreflector is mounted on a movable object to intercept the beam of light and reflect it back to a detector located adjacent the emitter. The detector activates an alarm whenever the movable object is moved a sufficient distance to prevent the mirror or retroreflector from returning the beam of light to the detector. Interruption of the beam of light in its path to the mirror or retroreflector is not required to activate the alarm; although the alarm also is activated in the event of interruption of the beam of light from the emitter.

    • A light curtain device for creating a curtain of light between a reflective first location and a second location is disclosed. The device includes a light source adapted to provide a light column, a plurality of beam splitters, a plurality of light detectors, and an indicator arranged to indicate the interruption of the light column. The beam splitters are disposed to intersect the light column at intervals, and each of the beam splitters is adapted to direct a deflected portion of the light column toward the first location. The reflective first location receives the deflected portion of the light column from each of the beam splitters and reflects each deflected portion toward the second location. The light detectors are disposed adjacent the second location, with each of the light detectors being operatively associated with a corresponding one of the beam splitters and being positioned to the receive its corresponding deflected portion reflected by the reflector.

    • An autocollimation light curtain comprises a light source which directs a light beam onto a scanning device which scans the light beam so that it is continuously displaced parallel to itself, thus forming a light curtain which is directed through a monitoring region. A reflector is provided at the end of the monitoring region and is subdivided in the scanning direction into a plurality of fields of two types which alternate with each other. Light reflected at the reflector is directed back to a light receiving system comprising first and second photodetectors. The two types of fields of the reflector have characteristics which influence the spectral range and/or the state of polarization of the incident light. In the light receiving arrangement one photoreceiver is filtered so that it receives only light reflected from the one type of field, but not light from the other type of field, whereas the other photoreceiver responds to all the light reflected back from the reflector. Thus one photoreceiver produces a dc signal and the other an alternating signal and a free monitoring region is only signalled when both the dc signal and the alternating signal are present.

    • An area-security system comprises a transmitting/receiving strip arranged along one side of an area to be secured and a reflection strip arranged along the other side. The transmitting/receiving strip is divided into transmitting regions and receiving regions, the transmitting regions consisting of a plurality of transmitting elements which are arranged alongside of each other and which are combined in at least two groups, and the receiving regions also consisting of a plurality of receiving elements which are arranged alongside of each other and are also combined in at least two groups. Modulated light from the transmitting elements strikes the receiving regions after being reflected by the reflection strip. A control circuit determines association of different groups of receiving elements with the individual groups of transmitting elements. A multi-channel evaluation, under the synchronizing control of a control circuit, evaluates the signals on the basis of various factors. The area-security system is particularly suitable for penetration-security or for entry-security application, and for the securing or control of machines.

    • An optical laser is operated in a continuous mode and modulated by a random noise generator. The laser beam is split into parallel beams which are reflected throughout the area by mirrors and each directed into a photo sensitive electronic receptor circuit which electronically combines the output signals of the parallel beams of laser light. The combined output is electronically compared with the signal employed to modulate the laser beams, with an alarm circuit triggered when any difference is detected between the output signal generated by the laser beams and the input modulating signal.
