    • An image processing technique for detecting and measuring the size of bruises on fruit, such as apples, is disclosed. A line scan camera is employed to obtain a gray level image of each piece of fruit as it is rotated in front of the camera. The image is digitized, and transferred to a computer which performs a plurality of steps on the image to determine the sizes of any bruises on the fruit from the gray level data. The image data is filtered to remove interference due to pixel-to-pixel variations in the camera, background noise, etc., and is then thresholded to obtain a binary image representation. Clusters of zeros in the resulting binary image that are representative of potential bruises are analyzed to determine their size and shape. If the shape of the cluster is nearly circular, it is determined to be a bruise. From this information, the amount of bruise area on the fruit may be determined, and the fruit graded accordingly.

    • A method and system for determining one or more dimension estimations for a vehicle. A sequence of image frames of a vehicle is received, and a digital representation of the vehicle is extracted from each image in the sequence of image frames. A bounding box is determined for the vehicle based upon the extracted digital representation for each digital representation of the vehicle and at least one dimension of the vehicle is estimated based upon the determined bounding box. An indication of the at least one estimated dimension is output. The indication of at least one estimated dimension is transferred as an input to a comparison technique for further processing the indication of the at least one estimated dimension. The comparison technique can include a parking determination process configured to determine a recommended spot for the vehicle based upon the indication of the at least one estimated dimension.

    • A system and method for measuring distances related to a target object depicted in an image and the construction and delivery of supplemental window materials for fenestration. A digital image is obtained that contains a target object dimension and a reference object dimension in the same plane. The digital image may contain a target object dimension identified by an ancillary object and a reference object dimension in different planes. Fiducial patterns on the reference and optional ancillary objects are used that are recognized by an image analysis algorithm. Information regarding a target object and its immediate surroundings is provided to an automated or semi-automated measurement process, design and manufacturing system such that customized parts are provided to end users. The digital image contains a reference object having a reference dimension and calculating a constraint dimension from the digital image based on a reference dimension. The custom part is then designed and manufactured based on a calculated constraint dimension.
