    • A lighttight box includes a lid movable between a first lighttight position and a second box-opening position. A clamshell film-carrying mechanism, connected to the lid, is mounted for movement (1) for a retracted position internal to the box when the lid is in its lighttight position, to (2) an extracted film-delivery position external to the box when the lid is in its box-opening position. Actuator apparatus includes a lift mechanism, attachable to the lid when the box is in a parked film-delivery position relative to a workstation, movable between a rest position in which the lid is held in its closed position, and an actuated position in which the lid is held in its box-opening position. A motor, coupled to the lift mechanism, serves for driving the lift mechanism between its rest and actuated positions.

    • In an electrographic copier, a buffer station for storing discrete sheets, adapted to have transferable images formed respectively thereon, and for distribution of such sheets into a track assembly where such sheets are transported into operative relation with electrographic process stations of such copier. The buffer station safely stores a plurality of sheets in spaced relation to prevent contact between adjacent sheets. The buffer station is indexable relative to the track assembly for alignment with such track assembly so as to receive a sheet from or distribute a sheet to the track assembly. The stored sheets are selectively released from the buffer station when respectively aligned with the track assembly.

    • This application relates to a cassette adapted for use in an automated, flat plate xerographic processing system, especially of the type wherein X-ray images are recorded. The cassette includes means to rigidly support a xerographic plate therein and means adapted for cooperation with external plate advancing means for the insertion and withdrawal of a xerographic plate. Upon closing of the cassette by one of the associated processing units and upon the withdrawal of the plate-bearing cassette therefrom, the xerographic plate therein is maintained in a light-tight environment. After imaging exposure to X-rays which readily pass through the cassette walls, the cassette is inserted into another automated processing unit which automatically opens the cassette and removes the plate, supported by the cassette in proper alignment, therefrom.

    • A mechanism for transporting a flat xerographic plate through an automated xerographic processing system including a pair of opposed shuttle plates, each of the shuttle plates having a vertical slot therein, endless drive chain means passing over sprocket wheels at each of two terminal positions, means to drive the drive chain means in one direction only, a pin securely mounted on each drive chain associated with the drive chain means and adapted to pass through the vertical slot in each shuttle plate, means supported by each shuttle plate to engage a xerographic plate at a first terminal position and means to cause the plate engaging means to become disengaged from the xerographic plate at the second terminal position. In each terminal position, the pins passing through the vertical slots engage the outer periphery of the sprocket wheels therein and, with continued movement of the drive chains, the pins are caused to move either upwardly or downwardly within each slot whereby the direction of travel of the shuttle plates is reversed. Thus, continuous unidirectional motion of the drive means is smoothly translated into two-directional movement of the plate transport mechanism along a single horizontal plane.
