    • A fluid level detection device for a chamber containing a fluid includes a sensor configured to indicate one of at least two states; a first state when a present fluid level in the chamber is above a threshold level with respect to a chamber floor, and a second state when the present fluid level in the chamber is below the threshold level. A stabilizer is configured to at least partially surround the sensor. The stabilizer includes a base portion and a plurality of sidewalls defining a storage well configured to store a portion of the fluid around the sensor. The stabilizer is configured to prevent the sensor from indicating the second state when a present fluid volume in the chamber is above a predetermined minimum amount. The stabilizer is configured to prevent the sensor from indicating a false “low fluid” state during a non-stable event.

    • A method and apparatus for providing lubricant to an engine which may be operated in either a normal position or an extreme angled position. Through gravity, the lubricant pools in a first location when the engine is in a normal position and pools in a second location when the engine is in an extreme position. A main pump provides fluid from a first location through a control valve to the engine when the engine is in a normal position. When the engine is in an extreme position, an auxiliary pump provides lubricant from the second location through the control valve to the engine. So long as the main pump has adequate lubricant pressure, lubricant is provided from the main pump to the engine.

    • An oil return passage for returning oil from a cylinder head to an oil pan is arranged along the downward first side surface of an engine that is mounted in a vehicle such that a center axis of a cylinder thereof is slanted with respect to a vertical direction of the vehicle. An oil return extension pipe is coupled to an outlet end of the oil return passage, and extends toward a second side surface of the engine that is opposite from the first side surface on which the oil return passage is provided. Thus, engine oil can be reliably returned to the oil pan from the cylinder head of the engine even when the vehicle is experiencing high acceleration in a direction that tends to cause backflow of the oil through the engine oil return system.

    • A four-stroke internal combustion engine includes a crankcase with a bottom, an oil pan and an oil spray generating assembly. The oil spray generating assembly having a closed sidewall, a valve, a bottom cap and nozzles is attached to the bottom of the crankcase and is enclosed by the oil pan. The closed sidewall is formed at the bottom of the crankcase to define a mist chamber enclosed by the bottom cap. The valve is mounted in the mist chamber with a valve port defined through the crankcase and a resilient valve flap corresponding to the valve port attached to the bottom of the crankcase. The nozzles are respectively mounted in the bottom cap out of the mist chamber inside the closed sidewall. The operation of the engine will produce an oil vapor for lubrication with the lubricating oil flowing out of the nozzles.

    • In a handheld type OHV engine, an oil tank is provided so as to be connected to one side wall running the length of a crankcase and a cylinder block, the oil tank houses oil mist generation means to and a rotational movement section of a valve operation mechanism, and the oil mist generated in the oil tank is supplied from a crank chamber to a valve operation chamber of a cylinder head housing a reciprocating movement section of the valve operation mechanism, and is returned to the oil tank by utilising the pressure pulsations of the crank chamber and a one-way valve. It is thus possible to lubricate the inside of the crank chamber and the valve operation mechanism reliably regardless of the operational position of the handheld type OHV engine while reducing the overall height of the engine.
