    • An improved chimney anchoring system to help support the chimney in the event of an earthquake. The chimney anchoring system uses several elongated steel straps which are affixed at one end to the chimney. At the other end, they are affixed to the frame of the structure in which the chimney is located. However, instead of being simply held by lag screws through holes in the strap into the wooden frame, the steel straps have elongated slots. In place of a conventional washer, a Belleville washer is used which is tightened to about a flat condition to exert a continuing force against the steel strap. Preferably a steel slip plate is located between the steel strap and the wooden frame member.

    • A telescopic flare pipe tower supports a flare pipe several hundred feet above the base level and includes a bottom section in contact with the base that may be the ground or the platform or deck offshore. The bottom section has a door or opening through which tower section assemblies including a tower section and a flare pipe section are transported on a dolly travelling on a track and telescopically raised above the bottom section. Each tower section assembly includes a flare pipe that permits vertical movement relative to the tower section but substantially restricts lateral movement. Upon installation of the second tower section assembly below the superposed previously telescoped tower section assembly the flare pipe section may be raised by a jack positioned on the ground, the deck or other base level to move the flare pipe section up to the superposed flare pipe section for welding.The method of erecting the telescopic flare pipe tower utilizes the track system with the dolly carrying the tower section assemblies into the bottom section. Each tower section assembly then may be telescopically raised in serial sequence. The flare pipe section is raised by a hydraulic jack to permit welding of the flare pipe sections to form a flare pipe.

    • A liner construction for stack-like structures, such as industrial and utility type chimneys and method for forming such a construction are disclosed. The liner includes a plurality of rods or cables supported at their upper ends to an upper portion of a chimney structure and extends downwardly within the chimney and over a substantial length of the height of the chimney. A plurality of hoops or the like are secured to the rods to form a framework of open sections. Mesh is secured to the framework. A body of non-metallic settable material such as concrete encases the mesh and framework. Tubular heat insulation may be secured to the framework to abut the outer surface of the concrete body. The method for forming the liner includes the initial step of suspending a tubular framework of open sections from an upper portion of a chimney to extend downwardly within the confines of the chimney and over a substantial length of the chimney height. Mesh is secured to the framework to define a generally tubular shell. A mortar of non-metallic settable material such as concrete is applied to the mesh beginning at the bottom and continuing upwardly to the top of the shell to complete the liner.
