    • A method and device for supporting a structure above a fixed surface. The device can include a support pedestal whose height is adjustable through a range of heights without a substantial gap in the obtainable heights. In one embodiment, the support pedestal can include a base member, a support member and a coupling member operatively connecting the base member and the support member. The coupling member can include first and second cylindrical walls, whereby an outer wall of the coupling member bears directly on an outer wall of the base member. Locking members can be utilized to operatively attach the coupling member to at least one of the base member or the support member. The locking members can function to increase the structural stability of support pedestal.

    • An access system is provided that employs a floor panel and pedestal assembly designed to provide a non-magnetic environment with no metal on metal contact making the system particularly suited for EMI machine room use. The access floor eliminates the difficulty in calibrating the EMI machine due to minute movement in the access floor panels that arises from metal on metal contact. Moreover, the system ensures that the floor panels themselves contain no metallic parts thereby eliminating the static white pixel noise associated with the more powerful magnets now used in the current generation of EMI machines. Thus a considerably more versatile access floor is provided that can support the need of the current generation of EMI machines to be movement free and to not generate static interference in their visual output.

    • A deck system and pedestal for use in forming an elevated surface are provided. The system includes a plurality of ballast blocks, pavers or panels laterally positioned in a pattern to form a deck. Each of the blocks, pavers or panels has corner portions, and the pattern includes intersection areas in which the corner portions of adjacent blocks, pavers or panels extend. The system also includes a plurality of pedestals. The pedestals are located directly beneath the intersection areas and support the corner portions of adjacent blocks, pavers or panels a spaced distance above an underlying structure. Each pedestal has a base at a lower end thereof and a support at an upper end thereof. The support is rotatable relative to the base for altering an overall height of the pedestal. One or more couplers can be added to the pedestal to alter the overall height of the pedestal. The pedestals can include a rubber pad or coating that secures and stabilizes the block, paver, or panel on the pedestals. Brace securement eyelets can be provided in a flange extending circumferentially about the coupler and in the base of the pedestal.

    • An improved pedestal for a flooring system of the type which utilizes prefabricated base panels installed in side by side relationship to support a series of upstanding pedestals positioned in a geometric pedestal array is disclosed. The pedestals support further panels which define chases. Working floor panels are mounted atop caps which form tops of the pedestals. In one embodiment the caps each thread into a threaded bore in a pedestal body for leveling adjustments. Novel feet project downwardly from the pedestal bodies to provide positive locks with the base panels.
