    • An impact pillow for resiliently supporting a conveyor belt in an impact zone in a conveyor transfer point. The impact pillow includes a base wall, first and second side walls each extending upwardly from said base wall to a top edge, and first and second end walls each extending upwardly from said base to a top edge and between said side walls. A top wall extends from and between the top edges of the side walls and the end walls forming a support surface over which the conveyor belt slides. The top wall, base wall, end walls and side walls combine to form an integral shell having a closed cushioning chamber adapted to receive and contain a cushioning substance. The cushioning substance may be a gas, a fluid or a resilient solid material. The impact pillow resiliently supports the moving conveyor belt as material is loaded onto the conveyor belt at the transfer point and absorbs the impact forces generated on the conveyor belt during the loading process. Different types of cushioning substances may be utilized in the cushioning chamber to selectively adjust the resistance of the impact pillow to deformations from the impact forces.

    • A conveyor installation includes an endless belt wound around head and tail pulleys which extends between an impact station wherein material is placed on the belt and a drop off zone wherein the material is removed from the belt. Shock absorbers are disposed beneath the belt at the impact station to dissipate energy imparted on the belt by the material. In one embodiment, the belt is formed of flexible, textile reinforced material and the shock absorbers are in the form of a plurality of rectangular elements having a generally planar upper surface for supporting substantially the entire undersurface of the belt in the impact station. In another embodiment, the belt is formed of rigid steel reinforced material and the shock absorbers are in the form of a plurality of closely spaced rollers. In both embodiments, downstream of the impact station are located idler rollers for supporting the belt at spaced locations. The idler rollers are mounted on a support frame via shock absorbing elements in the form of rings. Each of the shock absorbing elements is formed of elastomeric material and has at least one passage formed therein and configured so that the body wall surrounding the passage is generally K-shaped in section and functions as a buckling element.

    • An improved impact saddle is provided for use in place of a conventional impact roller assembly, for supporting a bulk material conveyor at an impact zone. The assembly includes a support frame which is adapted to be positioned in transverse relation to the length of the belt. The support frame forms a pair of side-by-side T-shaped supports which extend in parallel relation transversely of the belt. A plurality of polymeric low friction segments, such as high molecular weight polyethylene, are formed with lower T-shaped slots which are adapted to receive the T-shaped supports for threading onto the support frame. The segments have upper surfaces which collectively form a support for a section of the conveyor belt in the impact zone.

    • A slider bed conveyor apparatus and associated method comprising a conveyor belt system having a frame, a slider bed and head and tail idler rollers on either end of the slider bed that are secured to and in recessed position to the slider bed and a conveyor belt running over the idler rollers. When loads such as impact loads are placed on the conveyor belt, the slider bed supports the conveyor belt at the point where the material is loaded. This action resists sagging and stretching of the conveyor belt and also reduces wear on the idler rollers. The idler rollers are each mounted on a shaft and are adapted to be vertically adjustable depending on load requirements. The conveyor belt system is modular and of unitary structure and several modules can be joined so as to form a conveyor belt system of any desired length.

    • This disclosure relates to a conveyor slat construction formed of a heat resistant bar and a support structure therefor. The support structure is formed in one piece from an extruded profile. A central portion of the support structure forms a V groove at the top. A bar receiving area is formed from outwardly extending flanges and upwardly extending flanges at the top of the V groove. The sides of the V-shaped groove are biased inwardly thereby compressing the upwardly extending flanges against the bar in the receiving area. A circular notch is formed at the bottom of the V-shaped groove to maintain resiliency within the V-shaped portion. In one embodiment a nut receiving and retaining means is formed at the top of the V-shaped groove and an end block fits within the bar receiving area at the end of the bar. The end block is held in place by fastening means which extend through the end block and engage the retaining means.
