摘要： A vehicle is provided with a plurality of refuse collection units one of which is compactor unit mounted transversely across the vehicle. The vehicular mounted waste compactor includes a hollow body having opposed open ends each having an intake opening for receiving waste to be compacted. Divider walls within the interior the hollow body divide the interior into a receiving chamber and a compaction chamber with a passageway communicating therebetween. To reduce the length of compaction stroke and the space needed for the ram, it includes a sliding cover wall movable back and forth for selectively closing and opening the passageway. One end of the hollow body has a door against which the ram compresses the waste material. When opened, the compressed material is discharged in the direction of ram travel. To reduce the stroke needed for compaction and the space needed for hydraulic cylinders to move the ram, the cylinders are mounted diagonally to each other and to the direction of ram travel.

The trailer, which may be divided into a number of separate interior compartments, has a prow-shaped forward end wall which extends beyond and above the trailer hitch to enlarge the material-receiving capacity of the trailer. A towing vehicle is disclosed which can selectively elevate and tilt the trailer sufficiently to dump the contents of the trailer. An alternative towing vehicle is disclosed which provides a trailer hitch having a limited extent of vertical adjustment necessary to raise and lower a parking support associated with the trailer. The trailer is provided with a ground support stand which is automatically locked in downward support position.

摘要： A large, sealed, roll-off container of compacted waste is provided with a transversely extending, angle iron, ejection bar which is instantly, progressively pulled rearwardly along the floor of the container by a cable attached to the frame of a tilt bed vehicle, as the tilt bed is lifted to discharge the compacted load through a rear opening. A pair of extension cables are normally looped around the front end of the load and pressed against the inside wall surfaces of the container by the force of compaction. These cables compress the front of the load to free it from adherence to the walls immediately upon tilt.

The collection trailer, which is supported adjacent one end with wheels and which has a towing hitch connection at another end, is divided into a number of separate compartments. Each of the compartments of the collection trailer can be selectively emptied when the towing hitch end of the trailer is elevated relative to the other end. The towing and dumping vehicle has a hitch for selective connection with the towing hitch of the trailer, and the vehicle hitch is mounted on the towing vehicle to be selectively raised so that the vehicle can be elevated to a dumping position. A particular towing and dumping vehicle can be used to tow and dump a number of collection trailers.

摘要： A refuse-collecting apparatus or vehicle includes a supporting frame or chassis having a refuse-receiving receptacle pivotally mounted thereon for tilting movement between a generally horizontal loading position and a tilted dumping position. A loading plunger is provided within a fixed loading chamber on the chassis for the purpose of pushing refuse from the loading chamber through a loading aperture into the refuse-receiving receptacle when the latter is disposed in its generally horizontal loading position. A contractable shield is affixed to the loading plunger and extends outwardly therefrom relative to the refuse-receiving receptacle and is movable with the loading plunger for the purpose of preventing refuse falling into the loading chamber outwardly of the loading plunger. In one arrangement, such a contractable shield includes a flexible curtain and a resiliently extensible spring means attached to the flexible curtain and suitably anchored on the vehicle. In another construction, the contractable shield includes a pair of generally planar plates which are movable between an extended position of minimum overlap and a retracted telescoped configuration.
